EyeHome is a Universal system preference pane. It requires a Macintosh computer with PowerPC G4 (500MHz or faster), PowerPC G5 or Intel Core processor, and Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later. We recommend Mac OS X 10.4.6 with all software and security updates installed.

EyeHome no longer supports using aliases to play back content on other drives. If you need to play back content from other hard drives, create a symbolic link in your Movies, Music, or Pictures folder that points to the destination folder on the other drive. For more detailed instructions on how to do this, check out the

Note that the hardware is not limited to G4 or higher. I've got it running smoothly on an iBook clamshell 300 Mhz. outfitted with a new faster HD, Playing divx, xvid, mpeg1,2 & 4 without a hitch.
Also running on G3 B/W 450 and a G3 B/W 900.
All with newer type HD's.

The only thing I miss is an option in iPhoto to define where my Album directory is and, iMovie the same for the Movies directory. Now I'm limited to my boot-drive. I'd like to have one single big drive as the default Movies dir. so I don't have to copy/delete so much.

Actually, I found that as well. In the original eyehome software one was limited to the movies folder. When I found that iTunes itself was capable of moving the entire Music folder to a different drive I started looking for that same feature for the Movies folder, to no avail. Apparently the sneaked it in somewhere. I don't exactly know when, but it works like a dream. Got 500 Gigs of video online now. ;-)

Hello

ooh, thanks for the tip!

Also thanks for the alias tip. Is one able to alias to a whole other folder and have it work, or do they have to be aliases to individual files?
thanks!

This update installed for me without a hitch. EyeHome just keeps getting better - the new user interface is more attractive and I can now play a bunch of avi & divx files that previously weren't supported. This unit is one of the best entertainment investments I have ever made

Please note that the EyeHome's firmware must be updated before installing version 1.0.3.

smokeonit had trouble on 12 Jan 2005
i have problems with photos in 16x9 mode that are squeezed, in 4x3 mode they're shown allright.

another bug is when i try to access media files on my external lacie FW HD, eyehome sort of crashes, first i gets slow, then i dooesn't play movies @ all on HD, then i refuses to work @ all...

the webbrowser needs some major workover... it displays way to big, @ least on my 42"... i find it very hard to scroll, preferences for font size n' stuff would be much appreciated... also rss feed support.

is there hope for aac drm files support??? it kind of sucks that i can't play back my iTMS files on i home and have to switch to airtunes to do that...
