Piece of garbage. Started randomly blocking all google servers without warning: impossible to connect to any google server via Mail.app or any browser, across user accounts, and took nearly an hour for me to figure out what it was.

Yeah, I don't think it's been updated for a few years. I have peerblock and utorrent running in unity on vmware. It sucks, but I guess it's better than nothing.

Doesn't work at all. The log shows 0 activity, there isn't an icon in the top bar. I would consider peer guardian for the Mac a bust.

I could not get v1.5.1 to work on 10.6, but 1.6b2 from Jackweb's link is working for me on 10.6.6

If you install this software it will disable your .me account, under mail. Do not use if you have a .me account.

This program does exactly what it purports to, and how. It rocks, I've never had problems with stability or anything else, but I've never delved into its depths.
All that being said, it's ugly as sin. Really heinously, awfully ugly. I'm not a developer, so I don't know how hard it is to make an app with a UI (or at least a good menu-bar icon), but I hope that they release an update soon.
Looks don't really matter that much to me, as long as it's functional, and this is entirely. If it gets a UI facelift, it'll get five stars from me.

Installed okay here but I'm wondering if it's doing anything. Nothing seems to be getting blocked--i even activated all the filters and unchecked some boxes so it would disallow "std" (standard ports right?). How can i confirm PG is working?

This app is very easy to use, especially if used in conjunction with Growl.

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15979

You never have to disable PeerGuardian when you have Growl running, because all the sites I run into that are not allowed are quickly allowed thru Growl. No big whoop! If PeerGuardian works or not. Who really knows? But after a month and a half of use I have not received any emails from my ISP.

This review will self-destruct in 5 seconds. Good luck Jim.

Mac users please listen up, some of you aren't understanding the focus of this app. Of course it blocks connections to Apple and other 'useful' sites. This is mainly for use when you're downloading stuff off P2P.

So you wouldn't want to be tracked by government agencies or companies. This also helps stop you downloading from fake servers.

You can turn it off, or selectively disable when you want to surf anywhere.

One thing though, I wish this had enable/disable of just HTTP, like in the windows version.

Needs to work on a per-app basis, really. You might want to block P2P apps from Microsoft, but it really doesn't help you talk to friends on MSN when PeerGuardian blocks Adium...

This application is a really good idea BUT :

I couldn't connect to or use the following things:

.Mac Homepage ( Page not found )
apple.com ( Page not found )
Apple Updater
America's Army operations 2.3 ( "error couldn't connect to official Servers ...)
iTunes Music Store
All online games ( may crash after connecting to a server)

and maybe some more that i haven't found yet ...

with Internet Explorer i had access to apple.com but i had to think long why my mac couldnt do all the things listed above then i entered a command in terminal to stop this... ( like written in the ReadMe ...)

but now i just blocked the IP's from the list with my Firewall, i hope this helps but i hope they make a version who really helps ... but good idea and good work ;)

Logan Saxer had trouble on 27 Dec 2009
I am new to PeerGuardian and am having some issues, as far as I can tell it doesn't seem to work at all for me.

I have opened the Application and all it does is make the sound effect for a mac like you hit a button you shouldn't have.

There is nothing listed in my Log, nor in my PeerGuardian List, and I am unable to Update or Add anything because of the same problem, every time I hit the Update or Add button, the same error sound effect occurs and nothing happens

This is the same with P2P (VUZE) opened or not opened...

Please help, im dumfounded

Is there anyway to Toggle Peer Guardian on and Off?

and what is the most effective way to have an updated list of protection? Peer Guardian doesn't seem to do so well on it's own with that..

Peerguardian gave me a corrupt file message and it had no lists. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but it won't let me add a list. I want to put the P2P list back in. The corrupt file message has gone away since I reinstalled it. Thanks.

Ok, I've added several lists from 'iblocklist.com' and they all update fine. For some reason just the lists that PeerGuardian comes pre-installed with are not updating.

The blocklists all have been updating fine since about a week or two after the above comment with no problems whatsoever. Sorry for the late update. PeerGuardian works great at keeping known jerks off my system and out of my business. I highly recommend it.

On or about 30 Dec 2008, Peer Guardian stopped updating its block lists. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and now my block lists are even more out of date. Could all the different block list sites be down at the same time? That doesn't seem probable, but I've never had this problem before.

well, I downloaded peep guardian today, it seems to be workings..i suppose, but i am wondering, do i have to add my p2p url to it somehow? i really don't know what i am doing. Example if i used limewire or azureus or something, do i have to manually go in and add that to peer guardian, or does it automatically block them?

I had the previous version (1.4.2) working without problems, but this version (1.5b1) cannot install properly. The installer stalls with a message to "please try installing again". I have tried running the included uninstall script but it did not help.

Just add your own override list which allows all traffic to the given servers. Then whenever something is blocked, look up the PG logs and figure out which ip is the culprit. Add it to your override and try again.
