Disk Order makes file management easy, fast and fun on your Mac . It allows to save time on every step and gives you a great file-management power.

Disk Order is an advanced Finder replacement with built-in FTP client and ability to handle archives like plain folders. This makes file management much faster then it has been before, because now you don't have to launch separate applications to connect to FTP server, batch rename files, or extract some data out of .zip, .gz, .tgz archive. All these tasks may be performed within Disk Order with just few mouse clicks. Also, Disk

I downloaded and installed a trial copy of DO. When I first launched it, DO asked for my password for "permission to make changes." This didn't appear as the standard Mac installing new software screen.

Nothing in the ReadMe explained the use/purpose for the password ... and I was unable to select and proceed without my password, so I deleted DO.

I'm sure this is benign, but what an unfortunate choice of words.

Quick "correction," the "permission to make changes" screen DOES appear for things like Attachment Tamer ... apps that add functionality by using bundles.

Love the new version that is now compatible with Mac OS 10.7 Lion although there are a lot of room to improve as mentioned in my previous comment. The program seems to be more stable.

PS: I'd like to have this program highlighted red in the list of updated programs of MacUpdate.

I like this software but there are a lot of things that can be improved. For example,
- cut & paste (currently, only copy & paste). Also, I cannot copy & paste in the same directory (the best behaviour is to make a copy with new name, for example Copy of [x], copy of copy of [x]).
- for archive files, add some menus on right-mouse-click, extract here, extract to; handle archive files with passwords (currently, this program cannot handle archive files with passwords). Also, I can browse in archive files but when double clicking, there is nothing to happen (this should open the default open behaviour).
- add an option to browse as in the treeview (for both left and right panels)
- anyway, this a cool software.

Disclosure Triangles (detected accidentally):

the third element in the "view" block of the toolbar!
(normally in os x it is column view, here it means disclosure triangles)

@ EASER or anybody who knows:

- how do you achieve disclosure triangles (assuming for folders to unveil contents) ?

- any idea how to adjust icon sizes in the navigation bar?

I think I should back up my words more. I initially had frustrations with Disk Order because of lack of any response from the company. I don't think that's changed. However, I've now had time to try out both DO and ForkLift and find I prefer DiskOrder for several reasons. First, the tab feature is more practical, and the program remembers tabs upon restart. (ForkLift does not.) Second, DO provides me with a range of view options, including the ability to show disclosure arrows if I want. (ForkLift does not.)

That being said, there are a few features I would like to see added to DO, such as the ability to use a command key to go up one level, rather than having to click the curved arrow. I'd also like to be able to turn off the "Show Size" option.

Overall, though, I would say that DO provides a few more bells and whistles than ForkLift currently offers. We'll have to see how the latter evolves over time. I'll also be curious to see if DO upgrades to Leopard. (I won't be using Leopard, so it's not an issue to me. But it will obviously impact their sales potential.)

One other thing. If you opt to compare both programs, I do not recommend that you open them both at once. For some reason, when I do that, then when I restart I get some very odd visual distortion on my screen. (Another restart clears that out.) Neither program alone seems to cause this; it seems to be some weird interaction between the two of them.

Whoa! These guys are still alive. All I can say is, compare this with ForkLift, including customer service. You'll quickly make the correct choice.

Check out ForkLift, which is now posted to MacUpdate. That is the dual-pane file manager you've been looking for. Just yesterday, I received an e-mail from the Disk Order Users Community. Someone who had a drive crash (not due to Disk Order) was trying to get a copy of his Disk Order license. And, of course, there is absolutely no customer support from the Disk Order people. It is time to retire this program and its shoddy support. Give ForkLift a look.

When you read a comment like the one from PISSELPASSLET, we should all be more careful. The same thing happenned to me when selecting various files...ALL files in the folder were deleted and sent to the trash. I pulled them all back (or so I thought) only to find out I did not rescue a file from the trash which I had spent two hours working. This is a very severe bug, application should not have even seen the light of day with this dangerous behavior, and the developer should not even consider charging it until proper testing has been done.

Nice app and totally useful for handling files but it still has some issues that shouldn't be at version 2.5.x.

The biggest would be that if one selects several non-adjacent files, the app behaves as if the whole content of the directory was selected. So multiple selection works fine only if the selected files are adjacent. Not acceptable if you ask me.
