When I heard about the discontinued version of Expression for Mac the first time, I was very surprised and interested in testing the application. After having downloaded it, the first problem came up - how to decompress the old .sit-file? The current version of StuffIt Expander doesn't support this format any more. Fortunately, I found the slim but powerful tool "The Unarchiver" that had no problems with decrompressing the .sit-file. The rest of the installation was nothing special - I just put the complete "Expression 3" folder into the appilcation folder - that's it. The first start: Expression 3 starts quite fast, even if it needs Rosetta. The interface is very old and crazy (there's a status bar behind the Dock!), but you find one's way fast. More than ten years ago, Expression was a sensation. And I think that it's still a quite powerful tool with its strengths. In my tests everything worked fine and the application was stable and fast. Even the export functionalities worked. I can't complain about it, you can't go wrong with this (providing that you still have a version of OS X with Rosetta) - it's for free!

i loved this program back when i had my non-mac computer. was hoping to download it on here.

Hi, try downloading the second link on the page. The one that says download v3.3 updater. It's about 55mb and has the full application. I did that, unzipped the .sit, copied the folder and double clicked the EX 3 application from inside there. Opened up no problem. The file at the top of the page didn't work for me either. I think they may have the two files mixed up or labeled wrong. Hope this helps.

To be specific, I downloaded the main app from:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/6/8/a687b8f6-ed78-4a59-87a7-3339441e8116/E33Mac370en.sit

Then, you can update the beta with this file:

http://web.archive.org/web/20060221065128/http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/9/d/f9d6312b-63cf-4cee-9fdb-cbd0f418dabf/E33Mac377Up.sit

The Update sit on Mac update would not open correctly for me but the above links worked well.

.sit is a Stuffit archive. Search for Stuffit Expander to decompress.

ArtRage is great, but isn't the same thing at all. Expression is a VECTOR app, so it offer more freedom.

I like to draw and design in Expression. But MS says there will be no Expression Graphic Designer for Mac, only for Windows. Expression started on the Mac platform and should remain available on the Mac.

Would be very pleased if Microsoft would consider releasing a new Mac version. This is a very unique vector drawing/paint app. How many former Mac Expression users are out there? Anyway, because there are almost no vector-based drawing/paint apps out there, MS can really sell this app to many Mac users who are usually the creative type. I can think of only one contender: Adobe Illustrator. And there's also Corel Painter, but thats pixel based. Under the Microsoft name, Expression or Acrylic could really flourish as an outstanding app for creating art. And I really like the concept of 'painting' in vector strokes.

All hail the MS $. shame its at the expense of creativity. Write to microsoft
-email them and request a Mac version.
Surely they cant be annoyed by people
wanting to give them money fo their
products.

Now it's called Microsoft Acrylic (Beta Code Name) and it's only available for Windows. I still hope they release a Mac version, but I highly doubt it. One of my favourite apps on the Mac is dead - unless someone at Microsoft can state otherwise.
