It does not show up for people with Broadcom bluetooth chipsets. Stop wondering why it is not showing up. Run SW update if it is not there then you do not need it.
What's really stupid is after my "sure" posting. I checked my chipset. Broadcom. Not showing up in SW update. Was able to manually install.
Pretty retarded. Guess I needed it.
I was able to install the .dmg too, but it only left a firmware update app in my Utilities folder. The app won't start and just says "no firmware update needed".
So I reckon if this update doesn't show up in Software Update, your system indeed doesn't need it.
There has to be a reason for this update ? My desktop Intel MacPro doesn't seem to need it. I get the message -" this computer does not need this update "
It would be rather helpful if we knew why some of us don't need this Bluetooth update.
yea...this was a strange one...according to my computer i cannot install this update as it is not needed for my computer which i cannot figure why!
either way according to other users this doesnt seem to fix the main problem which i was having...connection loss...in my case though this was between my phone & my mac...& it seems to have become more frequent after the 10.5.7 update
sometime i need to restart to be able to reconnect with my phone...its really beginning to bug me
It really doesn't do what it promises, my mouse stopped responding 5 minutes before i posted this and i had to go through disconnecting it and reconnecting it to make it work again.
I was so glad to see this release here, as i really have a big issue with my Mighty Mouse, but now i'm totally pissed off.
Why release this, if it doesn't work?
Also needs Broadcom as the manufacturer. My PowerBook G4 FW800 has Cambridge Silicon chipset so this update is not for me and I believe yours is not too.
Tried it with my 15" titanium powerbook and D-Link USB adapter, but it says it's not needed. So, as someone else suggested, perhaps it depends on the version of adapter one has installed.
"Here's a suggestion - zap the PRAM. (command+option+P+R keys held down at boot until the mac chimes 3 times. resetting NVRAM via OF is also another alternative-Mike)
I had the same thing happen the other night when I was updating the system software while setting up an iMac G5 - the preference pane disappeared and the setup assistant told me that there was no bluetooth installed. Apple told me to zap the PRAM and it did the trick."

It installs on all Macintosh systems with Bluetooth based on the Broadcom chipset.
