Ardiem is the evolution of a little utility called "CocoaEject". The program is designed to provide simple methods for the user to manage the CD drives connected to their system. Ardiem's features include:

  • Complete support for hot-swappable devices
  • An easily extendable plugin based system for adding support to new types of devices in the future
  • User selectable system-wide keystrokes for opening/ejecting any of the detected drives
  • A status icon in the bar allowing quick and easy access to all detected drives

What's New

Version 1.1.1:
  • [Bugfix] Several brands of FireWire CD/DVD drives were not properly recognized. This should be fixed now but if any users are still having issues (mainly LaCie users) please send an email to bugreports@chaoticminds.org or post in the Bug Reports section of the Chaotic Minds forums.
  • [Bugfix] Firewire drives will not properly add/remove themselves when they are unplugged from the host system or powered down.

Requirements

Mac OS X 10.2 or later

Needed something like this for a long time in order to eject my firewire DVD±RW drive.

Downloaded and tried it. Great! Simple. Does it's thing and that's that.

till now...

Wondering if an OS change has affected it because neither choosing the menu item, or pressing the hot-key i set does anything any more, though the drive is obviously still appearing.

I used this app a while ago, and it worked well with my internal DVD-RW and external DVD-RW, but I never really gave it too much thought until I switched over to a non-Mac keyboard without an eject button.

This little app is INVALUABLE!

I downloaded this program and dropped the Ardiem icon into my applications menu. I see the eject icon in the finder menu but when I click on preferences I just get the menu for the sidebar preferences, nothing related to Ardiem. I just tried to trash the program but I get an error message saying that the item cannot be moved to the trash because it is in use... I cannot eject it or trash it or even close it. I just want this program out of my life!

I posted this on your forum but I cannot seeit so I repeat it here:

The only frive showing in the list is the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D (Apple intalled internal)

I have a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-5163D connected via USB at the back of the G5 and a Que!Fire 12x10x32x CDRW daisychained to a Maxtor firewire HD connected to the 400 firewire at the back of the G5.

The HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-5163D never showed up.

The Que!Fire 12x10x32x CDRW (QPS CD-R PX-W1210A) showed up the first time. When I tried to eject it Ardiem 1.1.1 put the eject icon on the desktop and blackened the menu. I had to restart the Mac as Ardiem froze and did not eject the drive. I could not force quit it via Cmnd option esc as it did not appear in the list.
After restart the QPS CD-R PX-W1210A is not in the list anymore and in the prefs it has been downgraded to inactive Devices.

Below is a list of my hardware and I am using Tiger 1.4.1
If you need more info please use the email provided above.
Please note that the most important drive for me is the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-5163D as I use it for my main burning drive I rarely use the QPS CD-R PX-W1210A.

USB or Firewire drives aren't supported? Why wouldn't I just hit the eject key? This software is truly useless...

Really nice work. Previous version always worked to perfection with my LaCie FW CD/RW, but this version recognizes my internal DVD-ROM as well; guess I could assign a different kbd shortcut to it if I wanted to.
