Just today, I downloaded and tried to install Plone. I Did the standard install and it failed with an error, it said. As a result, it wiped out 99% of my Applications in the Applications folder and 99% in the Utilities folder - 45 GB worth!!
Thank God for backups! So far it doesn't appear to have touched any other data, just that in the Applications folder.

There are many better content management systems out there.
This one has its strengths as a back-end for a big company, a back-end (e.g. document library) that will never be seen by the public.
It has a huge learning curve and is a bear to customize visually -- almost "fuggehtahboudit!"
And it is *very* hard to find a reliable host who can handle Plone, and Plone's needs for very specific versions of Zope, etc.

If you have use for Plone "as-is -- out of the box", then it's a fine product. But, like most people, you need to customize it to match your brand, change the look, or any other customization, it stinks.
