This means AppleWorks is truly dead. Once third-party 'enhancements' are necessary for something, it's gone (WriteNow, BBEdit Lite)

AppleWorks has been zombie-like for a while now - the best evidence of that, actually, is the release of iWork.

Yup, all those 3rd party additions (called plug-ins) really spelled the end for Photoshop!

Scripts and additions like this have been available for AppleWorks for years.

But, back to the second post, when a company replaces its own software with a new title--which happened a couple months back--you can pretty much assume the original is dead.

I don't think Pages is targeted to a different level of professionals or consumers (e.g., Soundtrack and Logic, or iPrograms versus Expresses and Pros), and so Works has been "officially" dead for awhile now...

And there's the dead (thank heavens) Classic Mac OS, yet there are many that still use it... Whatever floats your boat.

I'd prefer a poke in the eye with a sharp stick rather than have to use Classic Mac OS.

Ridiculous. Quark XPress was one of the first programs to support third-party plugins to enhance it. And it was the most popular program for publishing for years, until Adobe finally released InDesign.
However, since I don't think Appleworks will be updated with the addition of iWork to Apple's software line, I think it's safe to assume it is dead. But it's not from the addition of third party software.

Impressive for being scripts, useful additions to AppleWorks, but consider it a bit expensive. If they *could* integrate better into AppleWork, maybe the price is not that much OTT, but as these are AppleScripts, you'll have to (unintuitively) go to the Scripts menu rather for the extra function rather than where the other functionalities are found.

Maybe so, but isn't it a bit pricey considering these are just scripts; they cost approximately 1/3 of the price of AppleWorks; and most will just use a few of the 40 - i.e. paying for things they will not actually use for a few they will.

The next version of AppleWorks is out already.

It's called "Pages" and you can get it here:
