It seems like Spark disables/short-ciruits the ability of Automator to create services shortcuts, i.e. keyboard shortcuts to start up applications. Anyone else notice this?
A fantastic little utility I just can't do without. It runs circles around similar programs, all the way through Lion. This is definitely the little engine that could.
The Spark Daemon loads at login (its a login item).
I have used Spark from way back with never any problems. I'm currently still in 10.6.8, and although Jjmarcus below says "yes" to Lion, I'd still be grateful if the Dev could confirm Lion compatibility. Because, Spark is the one utility I just could not do without. Its just fantastic. I cannot move to Lion without Spark.
Perhaps, but I fear quite dead. It has not been updated since 2008, the most recent real question posted to the forum (besides mine) is 2010, and there were no replies to that. Too bad.
This is one terrific program. I could go on about how great it is but I'm sure that others have already done this.
However, there is one feature of the program that might not catch everyone's attention, and that is, there is an option, set per program, that when that program is selected to become the front application, only its active window is brought to the front. I investigated many if not most of the competing programs and none had this feature. This is really important because without it, when a program is told to become the front program, _all_ of its windows come to the front, obscuring the windows of the previously front program and any other programs whose windows you might want to see. Some might argue that this is a trade-off, a personal preference. Indeed. And that is why it is a checked option in Spark. If you really want all of a program's windows to come to the front, there is a super simple solution: Use the Keyboard preference pane's Keyboard Shortcuts feature and for All Applications, add a line Bring All to Front and assign it a keyboard shortcut: Shift-Option-Command-UpArrow works fine and does not conflict with anything.
FWIW, I wanted to give this five stars but there is something sucking in the Macupdate fancy review window that prevented me from going that high. Indeed, after I selected the rating for each category (which in every case I was able to set to five), I was unable to change them. Boo, Macupdate.
I have had a tremendous amount of success with this program. I use it to launch all of my frequent used programs, open frequently use files and folders, as well as launch Automator actions. Pretty amazing since its free. Have had no issues. With the combo of this program and Alfred, now using the mouse minimally.
I am using Spark on my mac since May of last year. Since then, i use it to paste my email adress with the paste shortcut. The Character "C" is always missing when the paste is executed. I wrote to Mr. Dugas about this issue. He asked me to increase the execution delay from 3 to 10ms. I tried all delays till 500ms, but nothing changed. "C" is always skipped during the execution. What could be the problem? And how to reach the solution?
Years ago, I paid for software to manage keyboard shortcuts; with Spark, the interface is even simpler - and it works effectively in the background, out of view. For me, it's uber stable, and setting up the short-cuts shouldn't take more than five minutes. And its free - the best price. Nice software.
This won't accept Control-Spacae as a shortcut. I am trying to dump Quicksilver triggers for iTunes as they are kind of shaky, but I want to keep my shortcuts.
