Email me when discounted:

This is a Contextual Menu Item+Preference Pane combination that allows you to right-click on a file or folder and attach it to a new E-Mail message in the E-Mail application of your choice.

What's New

Version 2.0:
  • Rewritten to allow user to select target e-mail application using a Preference Pane.
  • Combined three earlier CMIs into a single CMI that communicates with the Preference Pane to determine where to send selected files.
  • Added a preference (suggested by user Chris B.) that tells E-Mail Helper to bring the mail application to the front (or not) after sending the selected more...

Requirements

Mac OS X 10.3 or later, Apple Mail, Microsoft Entourage, or Eudora e-mail clients. (Will actually work with any application that will open documents via Apple Events.)

This version is the last version the developer ever made since 2006. Yes, this version 2.0.1 is actually made in 2006! This pref-pane is no longer working on modern Intel Mac OS because this feature is already a built-in feature in today's Mac OS X.

Both links (download and developer's site) appear to be dead. Shame!

Probably because it is so old - PPC, no intel support... wouldn't be much use to many of us except on our old macs that are still running after decades (another nyer to windoze ;P )
Wish someone would ressurect it or offer an alt tho. I'll keep looking.

I like this, but why not simply read the default e-mail application from user prefs rather than coding an entire preference pane to make that choice (and use up even more space in system preferences)?

Really nice idea, though.

Good point. There are a couple of reasons I did it this way:

1) I wanted to learn how to write a Preference Pane. :-)
2) As is hinted at in the "Requirements," you can actually pick ANY application to be your "E-Mail Application." So, for example, you could pick Text Edit, or AppleWorks, or.... well, hopefully, you get the idea.

This could be useful I guess, however you can already simply drag the folder/file over the Mail or Entourage icons and they'll automatically created a new email with the attachment. That said, some may find a CM solution helpful.

You make a good point. So I should point out that if your mail application is not running (and therefore, perhaps not in the Dock), it will be launched and the selected file or files passed to it.

I should have pointed this out as a "feature" in the original description.
