The main goal of the Tomato Torrent project was to separate the BitTorrent code from the Macintosh code, so that either can be updated without having to modify the other. I got 80% of the download window's current functionality implemented within 3 days of starting the project. Then I decided to finish just a bit more, and the project just kept getting bigger and bigger.
Features include:
Built on BitTorrent 4.2.0
Remembers recent downloads and where you've saved them to, making resumes quick and easy
I used Tomoto Torrent from its original release, and found it relatively easy to use, and efficient enough to manage torrents. Clearly, one of the veteran applications for the Mac.
That said, other torrent engines - like Transmission and uTorrent - have come to dominate thanks to their relative ease of use and simplicity. There's no reason to struggle with configuration because all the features are available within a few keystrokes. A growing community of torrent clients reject Tomoto Torrent because ratios are difficult to manage.
This is. altogether, a creditable Torrent engine. It's just that Transmission and uTorrent are faster and easier to use.
wow. i've never seen so many negative reviews for a solid program, just because the people writing them can't figure out how to configure their own damn computers. you're all a bunch of retards. you need to open the correct ports in os x's firewall and if using a wireless connection, in your router as well, for any torrent client to work. end of story.
the problems you all have with tomato obviously arise from not understanding the basics. and to the person who called this application "junk", eat a fat one. this was one of the first alternative torrent clients for os x and it is actually fairly configurable (see "advanced settings" when you start up a torrent). cripes people, get yourselves together.
1.5.1 worked from the very beginning, unlike Transmission previously installed.
Tomato's basic use is straightforward. The additional features are not commented for non expert users to even understand them. There is a menu supposed to regulate the ratio of download/upload volume but it does not work.
Stopping and restarting is very simple and efficient.
Compared to rapidshare downloads, I find torrent horribly SLOW (typically 3k/s downloads with 2 peers and 3 seeds) and I almost systematically upload more than I download. It is getting even worse as the size of the downloaded file increases.
Am I missing a better tuning of the parameters?
this client is the only one that does not crash my router! all the others ive tried have stopped internet service through my router, too traffic-heavy, i think. this is a great little program, very fast start and resume.
I can't remove this program from my iMac (running leopard) it says it is a disk and that it is running when it certainly is not in use. Please help, I want to remove it. I also cannot remove the icon from my dock. Help!
Just installed 1.5 version supporting OS X 10.3.9 and I had some trouble. Basically a movie or tv torrent downloads through Tomato with no issue and the length of the download is reflected.
Then when I try to play the avi through a Media Player(Quicktime) or burn it to DVD a black/blank screen appears. No images or volume. This also happened when I used the Azureus client.
I did that but each time I download a new file, the tomato icon appears again. I clicked "change all" as well, but it's somehow set to the tomato icon..
please advice!
I'm new to this whole torrent deal but everytime i try to download a new torrent it says there's a trouble connecting or it can't find a server or something to that extent. I've tried downloading from numerous people and all sorts of different files. I'm thinking that even though the FAQ says it's not my problem, it probably is.
When I am school on my breaks between classes I try to download, or resume my torrents and all I get is "Problem connecting to tracker - (54, 'Connection reset by peer') then the date, etc.
so for the most part i like tomato torrent. however, i seem to have a lot of trouble seeding files...after a file finishes d/l-ing, it promptly stops uploading which is hell on my ul/dl ratio [eek!] and i can't figure out for the life of me how to get it to seed.
my best option thus far has been to crank up the max u/l rate, which is v. unhappy-making on my connection.
