Cashbox is a relatively simple application for Mac OS X that manages finances. It allows the user to manage multiple accounts with many convenient features. Cashbox is currently under active development and many features will be added in the future. Cashbox is freeware. Eventually the source for Cashbox will be available, but I need to get through a few more aspects of development.
What's New
Version 0.50: Universal binary, fixed problems with the calendar in February.
Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

I was looking for a free little app like this for quite a long time. Only now have i realized where all my money has gone. There is only one option lacking. I would like to see the value of my accounts over time. I think some sort of account history graph would solidly install this little work of art in my hard drive.

Hello.

I have to agree.
This quite wonderful app could be even better with some sort of selection overview, so that i could find out how much i spend on that vacation week. :)

Or ... an option straight on the main interface that would allow us to only see the transactions of a selected period and the "total" area would reflect that selection, showing instead some sort of sub-total.

Anyways, this is a great app going the right way.
Thank you for it dev(s)!!

I really love this tiny app- I use it to track my current sales and purchases and it's been working beautifully. I love the feature to label them by color making my life easier to figure out what is what (helps a bunch when you have many purchases and sales piled up against one another.)

I haven't found any flaws yet, really. Never failed on me.

I agree...Clean, simple interface.

Now I just wish it could handle Credit Card Accounts.

The only type of account available is "General".

Of course you can't beat the price. Keep up the good work. I look forward to the next update.

I hoped, form what i read, that this would be what I would like. It is. In one hour I comapred two other applications, and brought all my personal current accounting up to date including settling some bills over the phone and making payent agrements that I entrerd into Cashbos. I was able then to project into the next month, and I can now rest my worried head and get on with living - though I know I have no money to spend (just a tiny amount), all commitments will be met, and I have an ongoing record. I did occasionally use Accounts, but that is better for a customer type accounting system, and is not as easy to use. It seems absolutely stable and speedy. I would like to use quicken files with it but Barclays Bank doens't offer these...(why not?)

Very good software for a personal or single user.

Monitoring the expenses and incomes are easy, thanks to its user-friendly interface and simplicity..

Good, essential and useful app. And free...
The only missing feature is password protecting accounts. I think is necessary.

This is a great little app. It is so easy to use. Although, there are a few minor points that I believe need addressing.

Firstly, I think there should be data backup and restore routines so that I can backup my account information to a folder of my choice. That way I don't have to manually browse through the folders looking for the right data files to backup. This would make it ease for restoring data as well.

Secondly, it would be good if when importing .qif files that you can select an existing account to import them into. At the moment, every import creates its own account, which is no good if I want to import data into one account on a monthly basis.

It should be in ~/Library/Application Support/Cashbox
Back up that folder and replace it and you should be set. But now since this app seems dead, I am looking for a way to transition out of it - a way to export the data or convert the XML files to something another software can read.
