Avid has free movie tutorials on their website, specifically for this free version. I really struggled until I watched them. You have to understand the concept of 'bins' and know what frame rates you are importing, and what sort of sound files you have. This is no imovie drag and drop (no offense, i like imovie just fine) it's pretty complex. I think you could make a fine film with it- but it is not for a complete novice who wants to just import some video and slap some titles on.
Also if you do not download the right version for your current OS it will not work.

If you refuse to pay a dime for video editing software, you get what you pay for. But if you still insist on using freeware only, try www.jahshaka.com instead.

In the era of Flash, surely we could have a quick guide please? Also crashes when I'm editing with some demo files a friend gave me.
This package is super average. Windows movie maker as average... but at least it works.
