Mail.appetizer displays a transparent notification on top of your screen when new messages arrive. It shows only sender, subject and the first plain-text lines of the message, so you can determine whether the message requires your immediate attention. The prominence of the notification can be defined by adjusting transparency and display time.

Mail.appetizer is a plug-in for Apple's Mail and integrates seamlessly. It is dynamically loaded when launching Mail and you can change settings from within Mail's preferences.

Mail.Appetizer is now compatible with Snow Leopard. The product shows incoming mail in a translucent, overlapping window. A bit like Growl but in a larger window in which you can actually read the text (not the pictures!) and decide directly whether to delete it or to take other actions. It's a huge productivity improvement because you don't need to open mail and interrupt your work. The product is a plug-in for mail.app and is fully customizable via mail preferences. Very nice integration, very unintrusive.

The original and still the best! You can grab the latest betas (including one that works with 10.6.2) by following the developer's twit: https://twitter.com/BronsonBeta

Since Mail.appetizer has not been updated for Snow Leopard yet, I wrote my own plugin called Herald that has similar functionality. You can get it here:

Be it illegal, complicated or simple, your fix works a charm, 7H31LL3G4L..
(Would hardly MacUpdate could host such a fix btw).

Thanks a lot for this!
Mail.appetizer is a _must have_ for Mail.app to me.

I was having problems with Mail freezing at launch with Mail.appetizer installed. There's apparentely a conflict with Mail-Act-On. I can only use one or the other...
