Ocean Waves overview

Ocean Waves generates simulated sound of ocean waves. Unlike the recorded real sound of ocean waves on CD's, Ocean Waves does not repeat for hours. I hope this helps you relax, sleep at night, and wake up in the morning.

Now you can save the simulated sound of ocean waves as an audio file (up to 400 minutes), and burn a CD (up to 79.9 minutes with iTunes) or download on your iPod.

I for one DO live near the ocean and I do love this program, it really helps me fall asleep. It is slightly repetative but not like some other wave generators I've heard. Besides, on calm days the ocean will sound something like this. I also think it's interesting to try and recreate a natural sound purely by electronic means and cheers to the developer for being experimental. And for those bitching about the five dollar fee for the entire program, give me a break. That's the same price or less as a drink at a bar. I'm guessing some of you don't get out much though. ;p

This is pretty expensive for white noise. I even tried John's settings, and although they improve the rythm of the sound, it still sounds like white noise and nothing else.

this DOES NOT sound like the ocean...it sounds like what it really is.... WHITE NOISE/STATIC...and as shareware, I think people would benefit more from listening to radio or TV static, it's the SAME thing but FREE!

For those who've asked, here's what I have my settings at currently (whic seems to be pretty realistic compared to Florida beaches): Light Wave: 33, Heavy Wave: 75, Enable Amplitude Generator: Yes, Acent Time: 88, Descent Time: 75, Wave Interval: 53

five dollars? HA HA HA! you can get the same effect by putting an air compressor hose in and out of your ear. This would'nt even be cool if it was free.

Say John, I don't live near an ocean (Wisconsin)... how did you set your prefrences for maximum realism?

Very nice. I live 30 minutes from the beach and the default settings sound a little fakey ;) Thankfully, the preferences allowed me to speed the ascent/decent and frequency up enough so that the waves no longer sounded like they were in slow-motion :D Simple interface and even lets you time when the sounds should start and stop.

Here are some technical details. It's a pink/brown noise generator with a "wave-like" random amplitude moduration. Unlike the recorded real sound of ocean waves on CD's, the simulated sound of ocean waves from Ocean Waves does NOT repeat for hours. Some people may be annoyed by any noticeable repeated sound, at least I do. So I'm trying to make non-repeating simulated sound using a pseudo random function. It would be really nice if it sounds much much more realistic, like Pixer does with their animations, and Ocean Waves is probably around (or not even) "wire-frame" level so far. I'll study the sound more and try to make it better in the future. Thanks. -author

Sorry but these don't sound anything like real waves...it sounds like someone has a channel of static on their tv and is randomly raising and lowering the volume

Keep at it, this program is only getting better. In the future perhaps you could consider a seagull generator ;-)

Wey, this is so much better now than the first release. Still not complete, sounds a little like a buzzing radio at times...still love it though.

Not bad, but clearly an early incarnation of this program. To my ears the waves sound a little too digital; the crashing of the surf seems to be white noise instead of the out-of-phase harmonics of real waves. The ability to control "amount of waves" would be nice too. With a little more work this program could become quite good and useful to those who need calm sounds in their environment.

Not a bad start, I'm sure with some TLC this program could be very good.

For those of you who want to try Relax, you can download it from here. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/6944 I believe it repeats recorded sound. If you want recorded sound, you can use Relax. Ocean Waves doesn't use recorded sound. And it definitely needs to be improved a lot. - author of ocean waves
