I switched from Windows 2 years ago and am still trying to find a decent Mac program for cataloging a largish comic book collection. This program does not come even close to meeting my needs.

The good:
- Having a decent Mac interface
- The ability to download issue information and covers on-line
- A reasonable price

The bad:
- There's no way to easily add multiple issues manually
- While you can do basic filtering, the list style interface won't hold up past a few hundred comics. A collapsing tree-view or more advanced filtering is desperately needed
- The demo only allows you to add 10 comics which isn't really enough to truly demo any cataloging program. I have a 3300+ comic collection and there's no way I'll buy a program without testing its speed.
- Their interface into the GCDB has issues. I looked up Iron Man and was only able to find about Series, while a direct GCDB query showed 86.
- A great deal of time in between updates shows new features are not a priority for the developer

Thank you for your verdict and thank you for your positive points.

Comics App. developing is not my main job. I spent so much spare time to develop and fix it. I have many ideas to make it better but I haven't time. I think $ 14.95 is the lowest price it could cost with those features. Try searching "Iron Man" without program limitations and you'll have your 86 results. if the application haven't limitations, it would be a freeware.

Thank you for understanding.

Nice app.
Solid features.
Really just needs internet enabled info retrieval to be a winner (as mentioned by several other reviewers).

A question for the developer: how does one add Cover Art, I've tried copy and pasting, dragging... no luck.

Using:
OSX 10.4.2

could have read their support page.. and the answer to your question is:

Q. ) How do you import covers, where do you get them?
A.) You can find some covers for your Comics App. into the GCD Site (http://www.comics.org), or you can retrieve from your comics book with a simple scan.

I noticed another user mention this below about internet enabling the product to download the relevent information. There are a couple of book (no comic support though) catalogueing products out there that use iSight cameras to scan barcodes and look up the information. I have been testing this product out and have found the grand comic book database to be very useful to get cover art as well as other information into my list. It is a free database and they specifically write on thier site www.comics.org that the database was created for programs like this. of all the software out there this seems to be the best for comicbooks but still searching for one to make my life easier since comic collector from human computing stopped supporting the mac (my only system now) getting the information from an online source and using iSight to read the barcode and grab the information from GCD as well as even scanning the cover art if it is not available on GCD would make this even better.

I do have some minor issues with the product as well in regards to numbering. Story number makes me think of multiparter while issue number is just that. Issue number should appear on the main list screen not story number.

I'm trying to contact GCD (www.comics.org) to ask them how can I retrieve informations from their archive.
Please, if anybody knows or can contact GCD authors, please, report the possibility to connect Comics to that fabulous Archive.

Thanks

Please, be patient.
Comics 1.6 will have features you will appreciate very much, and I'm activating to make Comics App auto-retrieving informations from Website.
All suggestions about Comics app will be appreciated from me and the other Comics versions will include them.

This is for the developer, mainly because I didn't find a link in the webpage for sending this over.

The software looks nice and it's a good idea. I was wondering if any of the following were in the To-Do list:

1.-Automatic Retrieval of Comic information from the UPC or from the title, including Cover scan

2.-Handling of other items, like Heroclix

2.-Price tracking of the numbers (I think for this and for #1 above the developer could strike a deal with comicspriceguide.,com where if the user has an account there the program can exchange information with their database)

I'm searching for a good site that can give me a good file type format where I can retrieve all comics information needed.

If you know one, please, let me know.

Thanks.

Great as is, but if it offered support for organizing collections of CBR/CBZ comic scans, i.e. auto-building index info from folder/filenames, that'd be even better!

Basic but pretty good piece of Software. Have imput almost half of my titles plus some odd TPBs and haven't had it crash on me yet.

As the author said, he wants encouragement to continue with the program so here's another voice..... keep up the good work

If I can ask for a feature, the ability to import from a spreadsheet (Excel perhaps?). I am not a programmer so I do not know how difficult this would be but hey, it doesn't hurt to ask right.

Finally somthing to replace the Hypercard stack I made ages ago... though I would still love to se HC in OS X...but that is another story.....

Forgot to mention in my previous post. I was able to run it on an iBook with 10.3.2 but unable to start the program from a G4/400 with 10.2.8 Hmmmm
