Made no different to my MacBook -- specifically one of the models that was said to benefit from this update. Battery amount remains the same, drain remains the same. It's like I installed nothing at all.
Though, I guess, that could be the case for good, as well. Because at least it didn't do anything BAD to the machine.
Well, even if the power did decrease on the left side USB port, my battery is definitely much healthier now. It runs longer, but according to the iStat Pro widget, its health went from about %57 after 59 charges, to 100% after 62 charges. I won't even pretend to know everything that this update does and how it worked, but it does seem to have made a dramatic difference to my battery. I still wonder about the USB bus though. See my post below to see what I'm talking about.
Finally Apple my battery is fully charged ... and beyond that! It's now 5632 mah.
Before the update it was around 5300 and declined all the time.
Bravo!
Seems to have solved a deteriorating trend that was building up recently with regards to my battery capacity. Having performed several calibrations and resets of the SMC unit, I was giving up hope watching the capacity dropping all the way down to 3500mAh with only 46 cycles. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to find out that after installing this update the capacity returned to normal values (5450mAh). However I'm holding back further judgement for I need to carry out some testing first in order to justify the capacity readings. Let's see how it does in actual battery life performance and I shall report back with the updated findings in a short while.
Further to my initial findings i can now support my claims after tests of about a week. The result is that the update DID surely resolve the reported capacity issue (down to 3500mAh after 45 cycles, it's now back up at 5450mAh), however I am experiencing extremely low real world battery life of about half an hour on minimal CPU strain and unexpected shutdowns attributed to the voltage of the battery. So at least for me this is a no-go, cell is going back to the distributor for a replacement. :-(
Here's an update: After letting it charge for several hours, reported capacity is now only 4085 mAh. Something's definitely not right with this battery update.
After downloading and installing the update via Software Update, I experienced a relatively long restart. Following that, my battery firmware was updated without a problem.
I also seemed to have good results. Using Coconut Battery immediately before and after the update:
Before:
Original Battery Capacity: 5500
Current Battery Capacity: 5124
After:
Original Battery Capacity: 5567
Current Battery Capacity: 5500
Is anyone else having issues with USB power after installing this update? I have only had it for a few minutes, so I can't even assess whether my battery is healthier yet, but my bus powered external USB drives no longer work on the left side of my machine, and have to go serially into the right side (before I could connect them to a cooling pad that connected to the right USB port, and they'd power up without issue).
The drives still work fine on the 17" MBP in our studio.
Does the battery patch throttle USB bus power? Can anyone else duplicate this behavior?

This fixes the "internal wiring problem" that apple said I have that would required a $1000 out of pocket motherboard replacement. 6 months ago.
