Same as iBank:
Problems setting up bank accounts with the website. Same as my review about iBank...

Any of the following happens when creating a new account:
-when setting up a new account: "OFX server error (15500): Singon (User ID or password) invalid" (And I am 100% sure the user and password match my user for said bank website.

-when setting up a new account, if the bank settings work: "Select the account you want to add to Money" (and the list is blank)

-finally, the one account that worked, when downloading transactions: "Error: Bank number not found"

Bottom line: wonderful app, great idea, features need to be fine tuned. Useless until then.

Appealing to the eye and with useful features, at least for personal/home business users (budgeting, reports, reconcile accounts, scheduler). Clearly better than previous version. Still, developer don't seem to like keyboard shortcuts: reconcile lacks one, as main sections do (after all they refer to the same underlying data, can be considered just different views). Also lacking is a folder feature for smart accounts: I create many of them. Multiple entries editing would be handy (es. reconcile)
Transactions right panel hides last two colums (default are amount and balance, quite important to see).
No problem syncing with iPhone app (just a little visual glitch, application window disappears for a moment under 10.6.8 running on a last generation Mac Pro.
Last thing: 'left' translate in 'rimasti' -italian verb, not in 'sinistra' -italian adjective, completely out of context here

I come from MoneyWell, which I liked but finally had to abandon, because of the many bugs and syncing errors, etc. that cost me lots of time. After intensive testing, I finally settled with Money. No problems (bugs or errors) so far (using it for two months now).

I main reason I decided for Money 4 over the other apps, is its clean design/UI. It is great to use with different currencies (multiple currencies transactions within one account), very important for me. Import of my old data also worked well (QIF) and the iPhone app is good and quick too. This app is easy to use, but still powerful, once one has discovered all the features (Smart Accounts, etc.). It's not cluttered at all, and it looks beautiful. I am very happy with it.

I strongly recommend to test finance apps over a longer period (until the demo is over) and only after that judge about it. I know intensive testing costs a lot of time (and it's boring with finance apps to keep track on four different apps), but in the end it helps a lot to make a good decision. Next to Money4 I tested iFinance, iBank and Squirrel, and these are all very good apps. However, keep in mind that finance is something very personal, and not every app works for everybody. While Money 4 looked not very powerful at first sight, it showed after a while that it worked much, much better for me than all the other apps. So give it a fair try, it's a great app!

No user guide

Some preferences greyed out, unusable

In any case, after just a few minutes it becomes obvious that this is not an accounting tool, it's more like a way to keep a simple record, for example a single-entry bank reconciliation

Umm, they have manuals for download on their website. You should go there sometime, even if it's to learn about the app before you buy it.

Money 4.0.1 is a great update and brings a lot of missing features from the earlier version. However, what has kept me away from it yet, is the buggy import process from Version 3.0. A few accounts get imported in a different currency from the default and mess with the net asset value figures. While I have manually reset most of the accounts, I have not been able to figure a way to reset the portfolio which has imported all my data in USD. The kind of figure showing as my net asset value right now should make me a serious contender for the position of one of the worlds richest people. In touch with the support team to figure a way to get the portfolio currency right. Will increase the star rating of the app once these issues are resolved.
Must add, that the overall interface and features are good and the support team and customer service is amazingly good.

I can't really state that their support has been good for me. My biggest gripe w/ Money 3 had been its inability to handle online banking, being able to retrieve OFX transactions.

Although Money 4 supposedly offers the feature, not only does it not work at all with my bank (BB&T), but support took over 3 wks to respond with a noncommittal response "turned it over to our developers"...this after I had gotten the same response during beta testing 3 months ago on the same issue!

No, I'd say Jumsoft's support & development team is overwhelmed with being able to make Money a viable banking software solution.

Money 4 will not run correctly on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion environment. It just keeps hanging when opening a file.

It must be revamp to support Lion. I won't pay for it right now.

Like Robby.is.on said, Lion is currently prerelease software, and all developers everywhere are in the process of updating their software, Jumsoft included.

It's unfair of you to give a low-star review for Money's compatibility with beta Lion software; you should have posted as a comment, which doesn't affect the star ratings.

After trying just about every small biz accounting apps out there, and after 2 years now, Money clearly serves our needs best.

Easy to set-up, elegant and intuitive to use on a daily basis, and dependable. We are very pleased to have found this app for our (2) separate small businesses (Photography Studio and small wholesale distribution co.).

Also impressive are the regular updates and improvements. Keep up the good work !

@Craig42a Wow, they removed invoicing from the 4th version!? Why on earth would they do that?

Aliiien replied on 06 May 2011
@Cerebrl, apparently they're writing a completely separate invoicing program rather than integrating it into Money 4.

One thing I don't like about M4's direct downloads is that they only support the OFX (Open Financial Exchange) format, which none of the four banks I have accounts with use (at least not without having to jump through hoops that I can tell).

Between these two issues, Money 4 is no longer a contender for me. :(

Great apps if you're in the US ... If you're from Canada like me, this application is not for you (cannot calculate canadian mortgage, loans, ...)

For Canadians looking for a financial apps, the application you should look for is SEE Finance.

Even if your not Canadian, SEE Finance is an excellent finance app which supports every format I have ever had to deal with and customer support is readily available if you have a problem. As for this app, dunno, tried v3.x.x - nothing makes it jump out compared with it's competitors.

Does not work with larger files when trying to import. I exported my Quicken qif file (about 8mb) from the past 7-8 years. Money is the only finance program that could not import it at all. It chokes and then crashes. I sent the report to the developers and they said there is a "memory management problem during import." with no fix in site (i.e. they have no idea when or if it will be fixed.

So if you've got several years of data, don't try Money. I also wonder if you use Money over time if you will exceed the "framework" the software established and corrupt your data???

I did--you were the ones that said there is a memory problem. I used your current version (3.5). There has been no version change or anything that would fix your memory problem so far (perhaps in version 4).

There were some changes in sorting. Please re-download the latest Money version using this link: http://www.jumsoft.com/downloads/money.dmg (it will be 3.4.8, v2053 and that bug should be fixed there).

Because Money 4 supports so many different types of accounts, you can neatly capture every detail. Create separate accounts for your bank accounts, cash, credit cards, investments, and loans to balance your accounting with grace.

Repeating the same transactions every week or month can be seriously frustrating. Go to Scheduler to create recurring transactions and select the next date and frequency. Opt for automatic payments so that the transactions are added to Money 4 without your even noticing. Alternatively, choose to add them yourself: this way, you will never forget to pay your bills, as Money 4 displays an alert for overdue payments.

Money 4 features very fast report generation. To make sure all your needs are met, Money 4 offers thirteen types of reports, including Spending by Category, Net Worth, Budget, and more. Adjust the date range, accounts to be used, relevant chart type, or other details, and see your financial situation appear right before your eyes.

For some, it's like breathing, but most people need help planning their budgets. Trust us; this is actually simple with Money 4. Simply set your target revenues and expenses for each month. Afterwards, compare your targets with the actual outcome with the Budget Monitor bars.

The Portfolio feature has been expanded to take in even more key information on one page. Follow all your investment accounts together with important market information for a well-rounded view. On the main page of Portfolio, you can see a table of your shares, a graph of a selected security's quote history, variations of Portfolio market values, top losers and gainers in the market, major world's indices, and currency rate fluctuations. Be your own portfolio manager with minimal time and effort.
