D2X (Descent 2) is a Mac OS X port of the popular anti-gravity, space tunnel game.
Players will soar above the surface of the planet, engage in combat with enemy air and ground forces, and use ten new, lethal weapons to obliterate the most sophisticated robots to date! From the innovative 360-degree, 3D technology to the new Fusion Engine, gamers face a new challenge as they attempt to conquer a new way to play first-person action games.
Many features missing, network support broken, mouse not working properly ... take a look at D2X-XL (available for MS Windows, Linux and Mac OS X on http://www.descent2.de) and see whether it serves you better. ;)

Don't think they need to add much more than this....I've got the same problem:

Wonderful game, some graphical glitch in the highscore screen but other than that and the cockpit bug It works great, now I can throw away 9. I would like some more levels however.
P.S. the seceret level takes a while to load

Not a perfect port, but for a non-profit job of an old dead game, it's pretty good.

I really think someone should make this Carbon rather than Cocoa (I'm the guy with the 6500 and 8.6+carbonlib). I would really like to be able to use a modem through something besides my serial ports. I'd doom all of you... if I could.

The 0.2.6.b11 suffers from a severe bug which the motions with the mouse are severly limited. Had to come back to 0.2.6b10 !

Pros:
It accepts swapping the original game's data files/folder and allowed playing at all levels.
It kept the cheats intact! (Yeah!)
I like the Open GL. Keep up the dev there. I like the new weapons hit actions very much. It makes the game harder and more realistic.
Cons:
Espace tunnel transition sequences are very slow and choppy. Work on those movies!
I have to quit iTunes to resize the window back to my default. It insists on staying within 640 X 480 limits. (Boo!)
It no longer allows new games except at level 1 (without cheats). What happened to the "Up to level _ _" option? I have to cheat or save the games now to level jump?
Every now then, it self-quits, usually between levels when shifting between screens.
It's a beta and still needs work. But by and large, it's definitely nice to see it ported to X. I look forward to release version.
You can find the songs in mp3 format zipped on www.planetdescent.com. This will not allow you to play them in D2X though, but at least you can listen to them.
D2X-XL (a different D2X version) will support mp3 playback somewhere in the near future.
Very good Port. Keep up the good work. I just want to know one thing. Is it possible to enable the cockpit view? In descent 1, the Cockpit looked very pixelated (320x240), put in Descent II the cockpit looked awesome in hi-res. Is there a way to enable the Cockpit view in this port?
