Yasu was originally created with System Administrators who service large groups of workstations in mind, Yasu (Yet Another System Utility) was made to do a specific group of maintenance tasks quickly within a few clicks, rather than needing to endlessly type shell script commands in the Terminal application.

Yasu allows system administrators, as well as the average user, to conveniently run various system level Unix shell scripts in order to perform maintenance routines and clear the many cache files used by OS X. Yasu was designed to be a simple, first line of attack for a

Version 2.7.6:
  • Addressed an issue where Yasu would not remove user cache files that had incorrect permissions.
  • Changed how Yasu logs errors so they're easier to find in the log file (at the very end now).
  • When Yasu does log errors, the application will perform the final steps (restart, shut down, etc.) after user has dismissed the error notification panel.
  • The Cancel button on the run panel now disables as tasks are being performed, and re-enables between tasks.
  • Other small code factoring.

Yasu launches and runs for me on ML just fine. There is some work that needs to be done under the hood (and is being done), but the app should launch as expected.

Please get in touch VIA MY WEBSITE with the specifics of your system.

alessandro82, your description fits the sandboxing bug in Lion.
if you used the unarchiver to unzip yasu, update the unarchiver to 3.1.1 legacy (not sandboxed) or unzip yasu with os x archive utility.

maybe we don't want it to do more, maybe $3.50 is the same as free for a working man with a wage or a student with an allowance, maybe it's so outdated that it works on 10.4 to 10.7 and it's being updated to 10.8 and maybe it works as advertised but you rate 1 star because clicking on blue stars makes you happy when you really just wanted to make a comment.

hey guys, anyone has ever lost the icons for the mail plugins (.mailbunde) and audio units (.component) with yasu? i used it a couple of times, don't know if it's related to 'update prebindings' or maybe rcdefaultapp did it. i'm not yelling "murder" so it may not be related to yasu, just wondering. domo arigato.

I can't say that I've heard of or seen that happening, but will keep an eye out for it in my next round of testing.

Take note of the actions that are UNchecked in the illustration accompanying the description above. I've followed this guide for years and never had a problem using Yasu.

ok, guys thanks. it's definitely not related to yasu. i installed a fresh lion system on an external hd a month ago or so and didn't install yasu. yesterday, i saw some components with icons and others without, in the /library/quicktime folder. just a visual glitch really. out of sight, out of mind, done.

as a note to other users reading this, i never had a problem with yasu and i recommend it. actually it saved my bacon a couple of times with issues related to launch services and caches.

The visual glitch with icons is a bug in Lion. Lion has all sorts of problems with displaying icons properly and/or in a timely manner, and in fact, the only thing that helps me is a nice cleaning with Yasu.

Perfect example, I have custom icons for several folder aliases on my desktop. Often, when I first login, those icons are blank/invisible until I move them slightly, then they appear. However, when I clean my system with Yasu, the problem seems to go away, at least for a short while.

Yasu is the solution, not the problem.

Have been using this tool since Leopard in 2009.

It has always been good. I keep it up to date the best I can. The recent versions close all apps when you start the tool. I'm pretty sure several versions ago this wasn't the case or at least not set by default. Not much changes, it's great to do system maintenance of the fly. Runs through all your basic scripts and never leaves any problems like various other tools can, even in the smallest way.

(NOTE: I apologize for my blatant misunderstanding a year ago. )

Recently, on another site, they made a big deal out of the fact that the venerable CCleaner utility -- a staple under Microsoft Windows -- was making the move to OS X. Needless to say, I was unimpressed.

I've used and tested just about every possible system maintenance utility under the sun, and while I appreciate the nuclear option of full-featured apps like Onyx, and the heart-attack reducing powers of command-line scripts like AppleJack, Yasu is my number one routine maintenance utility. Yasu covers the core basics with a simple and clean interface that other utilities have yet to match. Not only do I find it invaluable in keeping my own machines running smoothly, but it's also my first choice recommendation to newbies who might end up blowing their fingers off using more complicated tools.

On a side note, I really love the standard log file that Yasu generates, detailing *exactly* what was done.

And Yasu is uncrippled shareware, meaning that you can use it and test it without any restrictions, other than a nag screen that pops up before it starts maintenance tasks. Unlike so much of the cheap junk that fills Apple's Mac and iPhone app stores, this is an inexpensive program that gives you way more value for the money.

Really, you can't go wrong with Yasu. Is it safe? Yes. Is it simple to use? Yes. Is it uncrippled shareware? Yes. Is the developer responsive? Yes. Am I related to the developer? No. :-)

Yasu removes the system log files, and then recreate new empty versions of those log files it removed. If you launch the Console app, and view the system.log file (or others) after running Yasu, it should be empty.

I'm aware of how to use Console to view log files, otherwise I wouldn't have commented that Yasu didn't remove my logs. Itweax, also located on MacUpdate, does remove the files completely. I was looking for a single-window solution like this program promotes.

I never thought I'd find another maintenance app more useful for me than Onyx, especially one I'd be willing to pay for. Don't get me wrong - I'd used Onyx for years, had donated to its developer, and was happy with it. It's just that Yasu has a simpler design and I find it easier to use for routine maintenance. I check my SMART status and hard drive condition regularly with another app so I don't need those options on Yasu. All things considered, a very useful app.

The main download link seems to be okay (tried it myself), but yes, the link for version 1.0.3 for Jaguar/Panther is wrong. Since there's no way to change that via the app listing page, here's the correct link for Yasu 1.0.3:
