iTunesSaver is a basic screensaver that displays the current track playing in iTunes. Currently it displays the track name, title and album. I am open to feature suggestions, just email me or leave a comment.

What's New

Version 2.3:

Removed debug messages erroneously left in.
Text movement is now much smoother, the characters should not move by themselves anymore.

Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.2 or later, iTunes 4.2 or later.

I'd like to be able to display the Comments column which I mostly use for inserting the year of the song.

Actually transferring the iTunes visualiser in to the screensaver would be far too much work, and I don't think it's possible. I might add some sort of visual effect, but I'm undecided at the moment.

One thing I do is set this great screensaver as the desktop background. Then I can always see what song is playing when I'm working. This coupled with Synergy is a great combo.

However, I do care about the opinions of the users :)

Pairing fonts to certain artists is on the way, somewhere on the pipeline anyway. There are other things I want to do first, such as launching a different screensaver if iTunes isn't running.

Yes yes yes! I would LOVE to have iTunesSaver "know" to choose a different screen saver (in my case, RandomExtra) if iTunes were not playing! : )

DJ Tiesto -> Capitals font (since it's kinda industrial)
Manu Chao -> Sand font, colour yellow ^^
Harry Potter OST -> Zapfino font"

I doubt they really care about the opinions of people with no sense of style.

Hello

This is the app I've been looking for !
I love to display the currently played
song while using iTunes as a huge jukebox
and when people ask me "what's this
incredible song ?" ... i can now answer
instantly. Excellent.

The only thing that strikes me is that
it is a screen-saver .. and not an iTunes
plugin. I don't know if it's easy for
you to translate it into an iTunes plugin or not ... but it has many advantages over the screensaver option.
Using an iTune visual plugin, you still
have control on what is playing.
(next song for instance is controled using the arrow keys)... so when a song
is not the one for the mood... you need
to exit the screen saver.. and then click on next song, etc... this would
be easier if achieved from an iTune visual plugin !

anyway, i like the tool.

good also for any record shop that wants to display a selection of musics on TV screens in the shop...

continue like this !

I would love to see it with a tightened and cleaned up UI:

1. Aqua rather than Metal - the window can be aquified but the drawer is oversized and looks even uglier than drawers normally do.

2. Free-floating buttons, no frame, so it could look like part of the desktop (maybe do this with transparency in the frame and no-title bar, use cmd-click to drag).

3. Panel rather than drawer for the extra controls, or just expand the frame (that last would be particularly nice with the invisible frame).

4. Single-function buttons, the current ones are on the small size and crowded.

Comment to self: don't post when people are raving away in the hall outside your door and distracting you so you lose track of which window you're in and post a comment about iTuner to the itunes saver page. Baka!

I'd love to see album art floating around on some wacky shape, with effects going on with it to make it interesting - maybe changing the shape of the textured object, or misusing OpenGL lighting, or by directly manipulating the texture... (there's an OpenGL screensaver demo project on ADC which I'm going to have a hack with for other purposes :-)

OpenGL effects might come in version 3 :) I'll have to learn OpenGL first, though interesting effects could be done, like cube transitions when the track changes...

MacOS X 10.2.8 - It crashes the System Preferences when iTunes Screen saver is selected.

When causing the screen saver to activate (by placing the mouse in the activate corner of the screen) it displays plain black and then dies, causing the computer to exit screen saver mode.

Unless these problems are fixed. This is totally useless.

you should find some way to add the Hz graph while a song in playing, (looks like a moving equalizer, also found in itunes where the current track is listed if you click the black diamond). would make it alot better. thanks.
