No one is forcing you to buy this software.

It hate companies that buy apps just to increase the price. If Boinx had written more than a few lines of new code and brought that new version out as version 4, no one would have been complaining because of an increased price.
I'm quite sure that Boinx follows a steb by step increase in price. Arizona Software started at 8 $, Boinx continued at 20 $ whitout having done anything and will end at over 30 $ next year as PhotoPresenter 4 will be released.

I'd love to see Boinx prove me wrong, but I agree that more than doubling the price while bringing nothing new to the table definitely sets them off at the wrong foot.

By our careful calculations, an $8 app is not going to be able to finance the ongoing development and marketing necessary to move it forward. In fact, $8 would barely cover the costs of selling that can't be avoided (credit card processing, customer sales support, invoicing, book keeping...) An $8 app can be a good surplus income for an individual developer, but there is no way a professional developer can break even on $8.
Best,
Oliver.

The issue that many people may take (and in fact already have taken) with this statement is that no substantial "moving forward" has actually occurred before you raised the price of this product. It may be financially beneficial for you to raise funds ahead of development effort, but it does not sit well with (potential) customers.

Thank you for this comment. Actually some substantial moving forward has already occurred, but we have not communicated this well. We have had to make changes to the app in version 3.4 in order to make it work with our sales and support backend, a couple of serious bugs have been fixed and we have added a new theme. All these things benefit existing customers and new ones.
By the way, sales have picked up substantially since we released PhotoPresenter 3.4
Best,
Oliver.

Has PP been fixed? No.
Was it a waste of money? Yes.
This is the main reason I stopped buying some shareware programs. They aren't supported when Apple updates their system software.
I used to give a chance on something I liked. But not anymore.

This really isn't the case for most the shareware I use. Maybe you should look into finding better software. I've found freeware is no better at keeping up with system updates. Sometimes open source software is better with this because they have a community around the software, but I find freeware and open source are left in the dust as much or more than shareware developers because there's less accountability. You just have to find good apps with developers who put a lot of energy into it. What kind of software license the app falls under is not a good indicator of whether the app is gona' stay up to date with system updates.
Btw... PP works for me. Sorry you're having issues with it.

Nice whiz-bang presentation effects but on my brand new 2.8GHz AL iMac it is very very unstable, now crashing every few minutes.
What's worse is that there is no file system involved with this app: you don't create files of any kind. You can only "Save" your work by quitting. I started a project in PhotoPresenter and quickly developed a habit of quitting after every significant change.
If the prefs file gets corrupted and needs to be trashed, you trash all your ongoing projects because they don't exist anywhere else.
I'm sorry I bought this program. The 'shareware' crippling made spending the 8 bucks all but mandatory, but it was money I wouldn't have spent.

PhotoPresenter is simply one of the best means of viewing your photo library. My entire family enjoys using and viewing it. With the holiday season upon us, I am sure that it will be the most popular Mac app on my Mac.

I did get it as part of the MacUpdate bundle but am disappointed as it was a great way to access slideshows without firing up anything more than itself.

There is a 14.95$ update fee for everybody who bought any version of PhotoPresenter before it was taken over by Boinx Software (versions 3.3 and earlier).
Hope this helps.

Seriously, I own a few Boinx products and generally really like them. But their upgrade policies are... how should I say this politely... they stink!
I'm still mad about Fotomagico and how they wasted any good will with version 2 Pro users when they reamed us with the upgrade fee to version 3 Pro. Have a look at the comments for Fotomagico when they upgraded to version 3 and you will see what I mean.
In summary, generally really good products, but be prepared to fork out the moolah any time there is a "major" upgrade. In other words, they screw their current customers. At least that is how I see it... and no, I haven't upgraded Fotomagico.

If you bought PhotoPresenter 3.4 from Boinx Software (which was released in September 2008) you will receive a FREE upgrade. That is a grace period of a lot more than a full year.
If you bought any earlier version of PhotoPresenter you can upgrade to 4.x for $14.95 (for a single user license). That is roughly half of the full price and a pretty good deal IMHO.
We also offer an upgrade to FotoMagico Pro (which includes PhotoPresenter 4) for only $99. That saves you $49 from the full price of FotoMagico.
