One of the very best video utilities available — free or otherwise. Many don't know this, but in addition to being the best deinterlacer, it's especially good at standards conversion (converting video from PAL to NTSC and vice-verse), better than all but the most expensive commercial apps (like Compressor, Episode Pro or Squeeze). The developer updates it frequently, helpful, and is very open to suggestion. A major must-have.

Waow! I've found nothing else for slowing down a movie as accurately and fast! (even if it's not its main purpose, it was exactly what I was searching)
N.B.: my goal was to find the steps in a salsa dance movie... ;-)

Interesting Tool!
I would need it to resize Video (MPEG, progessive) from my digoicam.
Resize works but without filtering noise reduction.
But i see that noise reduction is only selectable if Video input is interlaced?!
Doesnt such noice reducuction or other filters cant be used on progressive video ?
(Bug or it is so planned / not possible to add filters for progessive video)

This is an excellent tool for cleaning up video. In addition to deinterlacing -- which it does very well -- it can do deblocking as well. I've been very happy with the results so far. And it's free!

This is fantastic, I got stuck with a commercial PAL/NTSC conversion which has a lot of hand-held camera work and animated photos. When authored to DVD there was too much judder. I compared doing the conversion using usual MAC software and a commercial PC product and this is the one gave far superior results, I will use it from now on. A Big thank- you to the developer

Why would you think that? If your input file is PAL then you would check the NTSC box to convert it to that standard. If your input file is NTSC then you would check the PAL box to convert it to that standard (if you're playing it outside of the US, Canada or Japan).

Error code lookup reveals "Expected a folder and got a file instead".

Found this solution in "./JES Deinterlacer.app/Contents/Resources/Troubleshooting.html":

"In case of startup problems it often helps to delete the plist in home/library/preferences."

Charles Taylor had trouble on 21 Apr 2005

I just tried converting PAL->DV-NTSC with no sucess. After the program opens the progress window, it immediatly crashes. No error except apple's standard "do you want to send a bug report?" I have to trash the preferences every time b/c JES opens right up to the same project, and promptly crashes again. I'm using 10.3.9. I really wish I could use this program, i've found no other that converts PAL->NTSC without smearing.

The author says OS 10.4 is required. That is why it won't work with Panther.
