Deskfinity is designed to allow you to have more than one set of desktop icons available. If your desktop is cluttered with icons for various tasks, Deskfinity will allow you to create an infinite number of desktop icon sets for as many different sets of icons as you would like.
What's New
Version 1.0b5:
Filenames are now truncated to one line if the label is positioned
on the right and the image is at its minimum size. This allows for
a much tighter packing and allows many more items to be displayed
on the screen.
A newly created folder will be selected and have its name available
for editing.
The cmd-N shortcut has been added to create a new Finder window.
Alias and symbolic link handling has been improved.
Editing a filename can now be cancelled by using the escape key
and deleting a filename completely while editing will not cause
a change in the actual filename.
Icons will now be rearranged if necessary after editing a filename.
The filename editing field is now placed correctly when the icon
labels are positioned on the right.
There is now an option to apply the current view options to all
desktops in the "View Options" panel.
Volumes can now be ejected by choosing "Eject" from the contextual
menu, or by dragging the icon to the trash.
The "Eject" keyboard shortcut has been changed to match Finder's
shortcut.
HotKeys are now displayed in the table of desktops.
Background image rendering has been improved.

I've been using Dekfinity since the original beta and hade come to rely on it daily. It was a very slick, very efficient program and offered a new way to manage multiple sets of desktop file. As a neat-freak (someone who like their desktop as clean and organized as possible), it was a godsend.
The latest version is a re-write of that initial beta and addresses the only serious problem that users had with it: icon placement was getting lost when desktops were switched. This version replaces the finder desktop rendering completely and keeps your icons placed correctly when switching between desktops.
This structural change, however, introduced the complexity of duplicating finder desktop behavior and doesn't work seamlessly with all applications yet (e.g. you can't drag files from your FTP client or images/text clippings from your browser window to this new "Desktop", the "desktop" icon in the finder still points to the real "Desktop" folder rather than the active one.)
Yes, it expires but that is expected from a Beta program. CodeTek has always been good at having the next version ready in time in the past and I see no reason to speculate that will ever change.
While they still have a ways to go in getting the desktop functions better integrated with the Finder and other applications, this is definitely something to try out if you are a neat freak or might work better with multiple "workspaces".
Highly recommended.
