ThinkGeek LED Clock is a nifty screensaver based on the LED Binary Clock sold at ThinkGeek.com. Impress your friends with your ability to decode an incomprehensible matrix of LED's into the current time -- now both free and in screensaver form! Like the real thing, it comes in two flavors: red and blue-and-gray. Source code also available for developers.

What's New

  • Fixed two bugs which could prevent the options sheet from showing.
  • Fixed bugs relating to using a custom image as a backdrop.
  • Updated to support using the desktop as a background in Panther.

I believe the aliased look is due to an incorrect destination rect size -- the bottom and right edges seem to be clipped. I'll work on it when I get back home. As for the binary clock suggestion -- I'll give that a shot too. Will take longer, though. =]

Hi, Love your screen saver. Any chance it will be recompiled for the intel based Macs?

First off: This is awesome. It's got some awe, let me tell you. The only negative is the edges look aliased. Maybe PNGs would resize better than TIFs? I dunno.

Now if only it provided a true binary time instead of just the ThinkGeek BCD variant.

(that is, where ThinkGeek's 10:31 is:

*--- (1 * 10 hours)
---- (0 hours)
**-- (3 * 10 minutes)
*--- (1 minute)

You'd have:

-*-*-- (10 hours)
*****- (31 minutes)

FANTASTIC ! I've been looking for clock screensavers for ages that I wanted to be different ! ThinkGeek is just perfect....and not that "geek" if you learn how to read the time.
It comes in First place, just before "Ballzs" which is easier to read for those who cannot count. Anyway, CONGRATS' to the developer : your screensaver is A MUST !!!

Excellent. It will replace Flurry, which is the best Mac screensaver, and ThinkGeek LED Clock is right up there in 2nd place. Thanks.

Note to those who have been experiencing freezes: Most likely this bug is caused because you have an old preferences file from 1.0 or 1.1 lying around in your ~/Library/Preferences folder. Your System Preferences program throws the ThinkGeek Clock preferences somewhere in that folder; your best bet on locating it is to do a search for, say, "LED" within that folder. Simply delete the preference file and reconfigure the screensaver.

Sorry for the inconvenience; I'll be careful about that bug in the future.

The Think Geek LED clock is probably not the best model for this. The original LED binary clocks had one column or row for each time unit. The big advantage is that 0-59 is only 1/16th less than 0-63, so it's easier to read at a glance because the top two bits of the column are close to 1/2 or 1/4.
