EIAS (Electric Image Animation System) is now even faster, stronger, and better than ever! For almost 15 years the Electric Image Animation System has delivered superior 3D graphics at a fraction of the cost. If you are looking to create Hollywood Style 3D graphics at an affordable price you don't have to look any further. Not only is EIAS the fastest renderer on Earth, it is clearly one of the easiest and most intuitive 3D applications to learn. You will be creating beautiful images in no time, and you will wonder why anyone uses those other bloat-ware 3D applications.

One could spend a lot of time on reviewing all the strengths (and weaknesses) of the various Mac 3D/Animation/Modeling apps, but there are better formums for this. I've been an EIAS user since version 1.5 (1992), and it does have some strengths, but it is no longer a modeler, nor does it have true volumetric rendering.

As has been noted, it is not for character animation. However, it handles some things very quickly, and can handle large files. Plug-in companies like Konkeptoine, NorthernLights and others have kept this package alive. And for LightWave bashers, let's not forget that the original developers of Electric Image now work at NewTek!

Let's hope this package stays alive, as it does offer some nice texturing plug-ins, and enough tricks to raw speed to do a lot of good work. Its renders are very nice as well. But until near-real-time rendering previews are implemented (there are several options for LW) some tasks are still very tedious.

Also, it would be nice if TreeStorm would support v6.6, but for now this is not the case.

Love you EIAS!

You obviously haven't seen the latest version (5.5.3) and you sound excessively biased.

I've been an EI user for years and its a program that I can depend on. Its rendering speed is unsurpassed. The image quality is spectacular and it remains an incredible value for the money spent. Its best utilized for hard surface animation, digital sets/mattes, broadcast design and large poly projects. Character tools are rudimentary, but improving. 3rd Party shader support is great! Lots of incredible tools and plugins from Konkeptoine and NorthernLights. Yes, Cinema 4D has more buzz word tools, but that doesn't mean its a better package. Everyone wants to say they've got the "best" package...but I'm telling you this; If you're doing one of the four things I've listed above, EI is the right choice for the job. If you're doing character work, need a more open architecture environment with enhanced scripting, or dynamic simulation / hair / cloth then choose Maya or CD4.

Electric Image Universe is a powerful program but the interface continues to disappoint and is in dire need of a complete overhaul. They continue to add features but they fail to improve the usability of the software and this is it's downfall. Whoever wrote these glowing reviews probably works for the company. Any serious user of 3D will probably be frustrated to no end with EI Universe.

This is an AMAZING app. Without doubt the most powerful 3D program for the Mac next to MAYA. Yes, there is Lightwave and C4D but those are dog slow. The #1 feature of Electric Image is it's amazing SPEED. It has been used on MANY movies including Terminator and Star Wars. The main limitation of this app is character work, it has features but not as strong as MAYA. But for any other type of work this is the app to go with.

C4D is not dog slow, it's the only program that's anywhere near as fast as EIAS in render speed, though EIAS *is* faster.

I agree - If you are serious about 3D - you should go straight to a Cinema4D demo, or if you have the money try Maya.
EUI seems to be like C4D, LW, and MAYA wrapped in one, lots on offer for a cheap price. But doesn't quite hit the mark, a bit like Carrara.
My advice - Cinema4D

As a former EIAS, and current Cinema 4D, user, I have to say go straight to C4D. The new version (9) blows EIAS right out of the water. Try the demo and see. EIAS was once a truly fine program, but it hasn't been keeping up with the other players.
