VChat - 1.1a1 Universal Binary is a must have app for those with the new Macs with the built-in iSight camera.
An updated CuSeeMe client that allows video/audio conferencing
with groups of users via a simultaneous connection to a Refector site.
The app is very stable and a user-friendly guide is located at: http://www.daffi.org/vchat.htm
Isn't there iChat already?
This version crashes on Tiger.
Great implementation of the old sys9 cusee-me we know and love. Finally an OS X version and it works.
The app does not work with the Zoom Quickcam although the driver is installed and works under iSpQ.
Does anyone know what needs to be done?
I can't rate the product since I can't use it.
Same here, doesn't work with QuickCam Sphere as well. Actually, it will crash during startup, so no go on VChat. Every other Video Conf. program I try works with this Camera. Including iSpQ VideoChat an Apple's own iChat. Except Yahoo Messenger. That one crashes when I try to activate the camera.
However, it Does work with my old QuickCam Pro 3000 using the macam driver. The list of reflectors is a nice feature, but the only connections I'm able to get is with NASA and a peer to peer connection.
Probably an issue with the Logitech drivers.
Marco is NOT the author of this software - he is credited with the WASTE engine.
The future of the software is undecided. It was written for my own use and is made available in beta form until such time as I see how much interest there is and whether it is worth making it chargeable and being prepared for the support/ehancement cycles that requires.
i only hope that the developer doesn't decide to quit working on this. if he can enable all the features that cu users have i would gladly pay.
vChat is awesome - CU-seeme has been around for years and it is great to have access to CU reflectors with vChat again. It also fixes IP problems with ADSL modems!
It is great to see someone fill the cuseeme gap. I gave up on cu once I got OS X. I have had no problems running VChat under panther, except that how one direct connects is not clear and it would be great to see audio added. With these fixes, I would happily pay a shareware fee. Thanks to the creator, whomever he is.
Nice job trying to fill the CUseeme gap for OS X. Windows are small and can't direct connect with another user but all in all, a nice start.
Good luck - shareware fee would be paid by me.
i like to know why in the new vchat version
it dont show up the partizipant ip ?
Is this a security thing or a bug ?
anyway nice work ,
plase release the code before you stop work
This webpage shows Marco Piovanelli as the author. That is incorrect... Macro is credited for the WASTE engine, not for writing VChat. Unfortunately noone appears to take credit for writing this software. The copyright says "Rodney Truck Parts Ltd".
its great that someone try it but is a long way to go.Is there anybodyelse who love CUSEEME? It would be great if we got it going on OS-X
An alert dialog box indicates that this is a beta version of vChat which expires on Sep 15, 2003 and that an updated version will be available prior to expiration. It does not state whether or not subsequent versions will be public domain, shareware, or commercial. In light of this, recommend this software be reclassified from "free" to "unknown" until the author specifies what the future versions will be.
