iChat Streaming Icon works together with iChat AV to change your static buddy
icon into an animation or a real video preview of yourself. Works with
any Quicktime compatible video camera like: iSight, iBot, most USB or
DV Firewire cams.
What's New
Version 1.3.1: Added Dutch localization
Verison 1.3 adds the following:
Interface now in 6 languages: English, German, Swedish, French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese
Registration bug fixed
Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.2 or later, Apple iChat AV, Quicktime-compatible video camera.
Be the first to recommend a similar software title.
It's good, but if you set the refresh rate too high iChat sputters to a crash after awhile. That might just be a result of my relatively slow DSL and powerbook.

Nice idea, but I do not like the fact that I can not have a video chat while Streaming Icon is running. Even if I quit the App I still have to restart iChat to start a video chat. Maybe something I am doing wrong...

That's why iChat Streaming Icon has a hot key to toggle "Suppress Updates". That function not only stops updating the buddy icon, it also releases the camera for other programs to use (a camera can only be in use by 1 app at the same time). Just press the hot key or simply check the checkbox "Suppress Updates". The hot key works from within iChat AV so you don't have to switch apps.
It's a limitation that I cannot fix because of the general way a camera is (not) shared between applications.
I downloaded this today and my computer has crashed with a kernel panic twice already when attempting to use iChat in Panther. I can't understand why but I wasn't having this issue until installing this application.

I don't patch or hack anything. iChat Streaming Icon does only send AppleEvents to iChat AV. Maybe your video prefs are corrupted?
(Not sure why my previous comment was deleted, but it's cool because it's irrelevant now.) Everytime I run this application, people are like... is that you? Live? How did you do that!? I tell them, and then they go download it! It's quite fun... now I can have 'mini one-way video conferences!

Works great with iSync no problems at all just opend the app and it was running.
Nice job I think I freaked people out with it, but that was the fun part!

Well written. No issues whatsoever, just pure enjoyment. For those of you who received "just a black box" you need to select the tab for Animation and then go back to Video Feed. Nice author too.
