Numerology3 Pro is a modular sequencing environment designed for performing musicians. It works by giving the user an organized workspace within which they can quickly create and connect together a variety of highly functional sequencing and MIDI event generating modules. Hey it's Logicat2001 again.

Interesting to revisit an old review of mine, especially after the latest 2.x update to Numerology. Just needed to clarify what I meant by "super-deep, super-simple."

If you've never used any sequencing software, a drum machine, or a modular analog sequencer before, this is going to take some time to wrap your head around it.

Super-deep and super-simple are polar opposites. Numerology 2.x is incredible, and will require some think different-ing to really expose its power.

The options in 2.x are greater, it's easier for first time users, and still completely awesome!

Best,
Logicat2001 (still not the developer, or a friend/employee of Five12. Just a very satisfied registered user!)

First things first: go download and play with the demo. It will answer more questions than reading this mess. It allows you to save basic setups, so you have no excuse no to check this app. out!

Have you ever lusted after monstrous analog modular synthesizers and their insane tweakablity? Did you ever spend hours toying with a portable drum machine, throwing your head about to the beat?

Did you then, finally, spend bucks on a DAW thinking it would be just as fun as when you started, then lost interest because you were always running to RTFM (for the fifteenth time)?

If you know, or want to know, what a sequencer was originally designed to do, if you want insane tweakability without lots of floaty-3d-virtual cables swaying in the breeze, if you only want to RTFM quickly so you can go back to tweaking, bopping and playing with this technology, you need to get Numerology.

The demo was interesting enough to get me to buy, without reading much of the documentation. Then, I started to dive in as necessary - holy hannah, this program rocks!

Very deep, very simple, super-cool and super-duper fun. If you have MIDI synths/samplers, you're going to love this. If you don't have external gear, just download one of the free AU's about the internet as Numerology now directly hosts AU synths and effects.

Look, this review is an unfocused, rambling mess because I was up late last night, playing with Numerology. Tonight, you should be too.

(I'm a licensed user, not an employee. The developer is a programming madman who responds directly to input, issues, problems, etc. He also squashes bugs faster than you can say, "horsefly", and is a really nice guy to boot. Congrats, Jim!)

Numerology3 Pro is a modular sequencing environment designed for performing musicians. It works by giving the user an organized workspace within which they can quickly create and connect together a variety of highly functional sequencing and MIDI event generating modules. As a fully modular environment, the user can construct sequencing instruments that fit their own unique and twisted requirements. The sequencers follow a model similar to that used by analog sequencers: the user creates sequences of control values that can be routed to other modules to control generation of notes or MIDI CC and Pitch Bend messages. Most current digital sequencers are based on a design that is very similar to a tape recorder. They have three distinct modes: record, edit, play? with little or no integration between these modes, and the edit mode invariably has more in common with a word processor than a musical instrument. These programs can be very powerful, but also cumbersome to use, especially in a live or improvisational context. There are some programs that offer some analog-style sequencing features, but only with either very limited features, or as low-level modules in software toolkits that take hours to fashion into something useable.

The Numerology approach is to offer fully featured modules that provide the immediacy and fun factor that analog sequencing provides, in an environment where the musician can take full advantage of their possibilities. Numerology provides a selection of carefully designed features, such as groups, presets, and navigation and mixing functions that combine to offer a sequencing environment with the flexibility and interactivity of a fully modular system.

Copies of Numerology that have not been activated by a valid serial number run in Demo mode, which will allow you to save and load files, and send and receive MIDI Clock. However there are some restrictions:
  • Maximum 3 groups per session.
  • Maximum 6 modules per group.
  • The transport stops after 800 beats.

A Standard Edition is also available for $129 USD
