Those of you angry that you can't convert the songs you buy from the iTunes music store to mp3 to save disk space or can't use them in your home FinalCut movies should get Hear Your Music Anywhere 0.6. This free app converts the m4p songs that you buy to m4a format. With this app the digital hub lives on !!

MARIA!
the best thing is to buy REASON 2.5, it will do most of your wish list and is pretty easy to get your head around, its also pretty cheap too! (about £200)

hope that helps

I've heard a lot of great things about Reason, but "easy to get your head around" is not one of them.

ummm, reason can't record live audio, so forget that idea.

This report of a downloadable updater appears to be premature. Soundtrack 1.1 does not appear in Software Update yet. I have a fully working copy of Soundtrack 1.0.1, FCP 4.1 and latest versions of their companion apps.

I'm a newbie and have a few questions... could somebody tell me the difference between the following software: protools, logic, cubase, acid pro, reason, phrazer, sonicfire, cakewalk, nuendo?

which software should I pick if:
• i want to imput and record using a midi controller (keyboard) which plays virtual sounds from a sound library (one-shots)
• i want to be able to use actual recorded audio as well (such as a voice recording)
• i want it to have a virtual drum machine
• i don't have a need for a lot of effects and sophisticated features
• don't have a need for loops or loop editing

thanx

I agree with the previous bloke - Reason is a very good starter app. More than you could want, Been using it for ages now from a background of using Pro hardware and still haven't unlocked all it's features, but it's still easy enough to get started with. It's not the best at mixing together long audio tracks (e.g. vocals - unless I haven't worked out a better way - the loop machine in Reason is the only way of doing this), but I'm buying this app for that purpose - Get Reason! (You can also download a trial version (I thiink at www.propellerheads.se)

Hmmm...first off....why on earth would you make a program in the year 2003 that didnt support MP3s?...ridiculous...
Secondly, if you have loaded all the samples on your hard drive and are scrolling through them seeing which ones fit in your mix, after 25 or 30 different samples, you will freeze up. SAVE your mixes about every 10 minutes if you dont want to lose what you have already done. I am running this on an 867 with 1.5 gb RAM.
Third....Why should they make it run on a g3?...geez...get with the new millenium kiddos.
Fourth.....stay away from the dual processors and the G5s....they have heat sink problems and we have been through 2 dual g4s and now on our 3rd g5 at work with little or no support from apple whatsoever. Seems like since al gore joined the team, things have gone to sh*t. Apple is now consistently lying, dodging the problem and failing to admit that they are throwing product out without fully solving all of the heat issues.

Do you have any idea how MP3 compresses audio? It would be useless in an app like this. Who distributes loops in MP3 format anyway?

That tip about editing the plist works for my 400 Mhz G4. It was just below the requirements before (Says it requires 450mhz+). I changed it to 400 min. in the plist and all is well - runs perfect - I don't know why it doesn't support it by default (It's not slow at all).

But, when I tried to change the plist "Processor Type" to G3, it didn't load...so it might be a G4 min. in contrast to what the poster below said. Anyways, should at least work on any G4.

I'm dissapointed that the program does not support analog audio inputs. Kills its vocal capibilities.

I just bought a G3 iBook $1000+(brand new), I cannot use this at all because a G4 is required! Back to Windows for audio I guess. (ibook 700MHz G3). I have to use Metro from www.cakewalk.com in classic mode.
