What's New
Version 2.1.1 brings serveral new features as well as twenty minor bug fixes.
Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.2 or later, POP email account.
have reported two bugs to Spam Slam and with repeated reminders and requests for acknowledgements I have gotten no response. The two bugs are:
- Won't work with aliased email names where the server is on a different domain than your email. That is if I have a server that serves more than one domain the other domains wont work. This is a serious limitation. BTW SpamFire handles this configuration just fine as do all email clients i have ever tried.
-Spam slam does not update window positions on multiple monitor configuration. If I sleep my powerbook and spam slam is opened on the second monitor then when I unsleep if the second monitor is not attached then the spam slam window is hidden. No way to get it back (maybe deleting prefs would work but then I would have to re set up all my filters.
Finally I had trouble importing big address book for my whitelist finally gave up (spam slam would choke) and exported address book to text file. Then imported to spam slam.
I think there may be a problem at SpamSlam their forum's are now down so be careful before you buy. Looks like I may have wasted my money.

I like what it does and how it does it ... but the darn thing continually crashes under both Jaguar and Panther. The support site has never been activiated by the owner. Emailing with a problem may or may not get a response. Pity.
Some nice improvements were made up to v 2.1.1 but the instability issue makes it unreliable. BTW, I purchased the unlimited user version.
I didn't turn the challenge response system off, and I had to send an apologetic letter out to my clients when they received a "threatening" letter about being blacklisted. Maybe this works for PC users, but not for Mac users. I'm back to Spamfire. very disappointing.

While we Mac users are famous for not RTFM, a cursory glance at the docs would have revealed that this is a Challenge/Response system. Perhaps you should have taken a look the Challenge message that is sent out and modified it to meet your needs?
This Mac user is quite satisfied with how the system works, if not the support provided by the company.
I have been using JunkBroom for about 2 months now and works great. It requires minimal training at the beginning and some occasional attention. However it is free.

Please don't use challenge/response systems. They are the WRONG way to fix the spam problem.... PLEASE look towards other options. Please!?!?!? ;)

I dont think it's quite ready yet.. between multiple crashes.. (which possibly would not have happened in the very latest build) i had to re-insert my demo account.. just testing the server and downloading the mail meant that pretty much my entire contact list recieved 8 or 9 SpamSlam verification mails.
Unsurprisingly they were confused by this. Then i didnt even carry on using the program. I think just a little bit more explaining of what everything was going to do in advance would help. :)
the reason i didnt carry on using the program isn't to do with bugs etc though, its because i was hoping for a solution i could easily use so both myself and another could pick up mail spam free from my domain (from different machines).. problem is my WAN IP isn't static, so they'd be continually configging their email client. :/
I think the idea itself is good though.

I can't see the above point having to much validity.
I installed and it has stopped 99% of unwanted email on the account I demoed it for. Plus its only at version 1.0. This is the way to go to stop spam. Way better than my current filter based Spam product. I can't wait for them to make it IMAP compatible for all our .dot mac email accounts (You listening ilesa and mallory) - Contact Info IN THE program or feedback button would be welcomed.

FINALLY!!!! AWESOME PRODUCT. MUST HAVE -ROCK SOLID!!!!!!!!!!
FYI: most challenge-response systems are prohibited on mailing lists, and many people filter out challenges themselves as junk mail.
Sorry, but this is NOT the way to fix the spam problem. Seek other solutions. Nothing against the program or its author - just the wrong way to solve the problem.

SpamSlam doesn't issue challenges to messages that are clearly junk email,
thereby greatly reducing the amount of bandwidth consumed by unnecessary
challenge emails. Because it employs a Statistical Content-Based Filter,
SpamSlam's Challenge/Response is now just as effective, yet many times more
efficient than previous versions of SpamSlam which employed only a
Challenge/Response Filter.
SpamSlam's AccuFilter automatically trains itself, unlike every other
Statistical Content-Based Filter which requires you to spend time and effort
training the system over a period of weeks. SpamSlam requires none of your
time, and AccuFilter's training occurs automatically and without
intervention. In addition, other Statistical Content-Based filters are
useless when they encounter a message that looks both like legitimate email
and like junk email. SpamSlam's AccuFilter just issues the sender a
challenge when it encounters such a message, thereby eliminating the chance
that a message gets mis-classified.
