That said - what it doesn't tell you up front is that, IF you use Galerie's comment feature (which allows you to let viewers comment on your photo galeries which are hosted on THEIR servers) - it also AUTOMATICALLY assumes you want to share your uploaded/hosted galerie with the world, and publishes a thumbnail and a link to your galerie on their "Gallery of Galeries" website.
Needless to say, this was a concern to me as I may not wish to share personal family photos with the world by default, nor do I need that kind of hit to my limited bandwidth.
THE ONLY way to keep them private is to go to your Galerie Administration page (which they send you a link to after you signup so you can use their feedback/comment system in with your galeries) and manually select each galerie you want to keep private. You then get a message saying their server will be updated with that preference within 15 minutes.
I went to the software maker's support sight and asked them about this, and why they wouldn't automatically, by default, assume people wanted to maintain their privacy and instead have them choose to share their galeries instead of basically forcing them to opt-out.
Unfortunately, my concerns were summarily dismissed as "trivial."

Even though this is free software - don't take your privacy for granted.

The point behind the post had NOTHING to do with someone making money - but EVERYTHING to do with a software developer posting galleries of photos that MOST people would assume were being created for private use as part of their PUBLIC collection without CLEARLY disclosing ahead of time that they were doing it.
It has EVERYTHING to do with being up front, honest and transparent in their intentions and NOTHING to do with profit. I even said I would gladly pay for this software - it is good - with the exception that the authors are rude, inconsiderate, and not interested in feedback from their customers or their customer's privacy.

Changed some settings (lots of options), tried to select a template - program then asked *me* where its folder of templates was. Its in its folder with the application, presumably right where the developer put it. Selected 1 of the 18 galleries (Anthracite shadow) and clicked "Generate Gallery".
As it processed photos it showed an apparently demo photo of a child which was not present in the output. Weird.
Index.html page opened in Safari. Clicking thumbnail links did nothing but spin Safari's gear for a second - no new page, no error. Manually opened the thumbs.html page, links work on that one.
Gallery format looks nice but the image quality was horrid despite the fact that none of the images needed to be resized (I already did that before testing gallery generation programs.) Went back and removed the setting to "Use Picture Frame" and regenerated - that was it - the picture quality appeared equal to the source images.
Drug program to the trash making a mental note to look for newer versions in the future, wrote this review.
Overall, lots of options, poorly implemented interface (even in the simplified mode - difficult to guess where any specific settings will be - in preferences? under menus? in the main window?), nice looking galleries but flawed html output.
Looking forward to a version that can output pages which work in Safari.

AND thank you for offering it for free.
This software is something that Apple should have included in iPhoto but did not.
I am always amazed at the quality of the free & open source software that developers offer.
Thank you again for offering this application free of cost and for the many hours involved in developing it.

So far, I have no problems at all with this free application. In my opinion, this is one of the best freeware apps, ever. Anyone-from my grandma to a power user-can dig into this app and find more and more useful features. I love being able to customize just about every aspect of every page and piece of text; I can even design my own templates or modify others!
What more can you ask of a free app?
