Still useless to me because there isn't a decent way to write the edited bookmarks back to your browser(s). The Export function doesn't do this.
Back in the old days there used to be a menu option "Save to browser" but it was removed. Maybe the developer doesn't like the extra work that maintaining this function brings with it?

In Safari, one can import files exported by URL Manager. Not an elegant (read easily synchronized) solution by any means.

Hi Alco,

Could you let us know what you road map for URL manager pro is?

Is this just a lion compatibility update and you go back to sleep?

Will you improve this further, update the UI, ad new features?

This would be great to know before forking out money again for your neglected software?

Thanks

I have to agree with 22duke. I've been looking through version 4.0.1b2 and my thought was, "$15/$25 for the same old thing which hasn't been updated for years?" I've moved on to XMarks for synching bookmarks between browsers on various computers and BookMacster for overall bookmark management. I had forgotten about URLManager Pro until I got a notification of this update. I would consider upgrading to the latest URLManager Pro if the upgrade price was nominal or if it's development was going to start up after all these years.

I have 3.5b10 on Snow Leopard. The program hasn't had any added features for years and apparently it's never going to make it out of beta. Now the developer wants $15 so it will run on Lion.

From what I can see, v4 adds no new features, just makes it Lion compatible. I think I'll give it a miss.

Furthermore, even though it's marked as 4.0b4 above, if you click the download link, it downloads 3.5b11. On the URL Manager Pro website, it has release notes for version 3.6, but there's no where to download it.

When I click "What's the latest version?" from within the program, it tells me that my 3.5b10 is the latest version.

This pretty much sums up the lackadaisical manner in which this program has been developed in recent years.

Like many other users, I am just glad that URL M P now runs on Lion and starts up much more quickly on Snow Leopard. As I've been using the program for over 10 years, I'm not looking for any new features, I just want it to continue to exist as a best of class application for the Mac platform.

Totally useless because the Menu option "Save to Browser" is removed. How am I supposed to write my managed bookmarks back to my different browsers?

Just tried it (from main site.. version 4 is not on here yet..). Looks so 1998.. nothing new.. buggy, unable to import Bookmarks.. Ok.. it is truly dead. Too bad. I was hoping for a revival. It sure ain't that. If this all Alco has to offer.. I say.. "Zombie.. go back to the land of the undead.. but away from here". Major disappointment after two minutes of hope.

Nice to have URL Manager Pro back. After a couple of years of no support, the developer is creating a Lion-ready Intel version of this program that keeps a unified collection of bookmarks that you access from the menu bar for use in any browser. This is the beta version, but it works well in my tests.

Product works as a stand alone.

On an Intel MacPro running 10.6.5 I still use it (version 3.5.b11) successfully with Safari 5.03, Firefox 3.6, Opera, Camino, Omniweb, Chrome and others when last checked. Sometimes you do have to drag the desired new web address to the area on URL Manager you desire and vice versa. An update for some functionality is very warranted despite its last update date. I've found if you are not loyal to one browser platform this has no peer so bookmarks don't require an import-export hassle depending on browser use.

Just downloaded it to check, downloaded just fine. Make sure you have passive FTp enabled in System Preferences/Network/Proxies.
