IP Address Menu overview

IP Address Menu lets users display a current IP address in the menu bar.

You want to display your user name, your computer name, the IP address, the subnet mask and the MAC address of each of your network interface at the same time? You want your Mac to automatically send an email or upload a file through FTP when one of your IP addresses changes?

IP Address Menu allows you to display your current IP address (and other information) in the menu bar and to notify you of changes by email or FTP.

  • It displays an icon or your current IP address in the right side of the menu bar.
  • It displays your user name, your computer name, the IP address, the subnet mask and the MAC address of each of your network interface in the menus.
  • It can display your external IP address (when connected to the Internet through a router).
  • You can copy them to the clipboard by selecting them.
  • It can automatically send an email or upload a file through FTP with all this information and the new IP address when it detects that one of your IP addresses has changed.
  • This can be useful for example if you want to be notified when your remote Mac has changed of IP address because of an Internet reconnection.
  • You can configure the subject and the body of the emails sent.
  • You can configure the name and the content of the file uploaded through FTP.
  • It doesn't need any installation which makes it very easy to use.
  • It is available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Latvian, Polish, Russian, and many other languages.

What a terrible app! Not only does this looks like a very old OS X app, it doesn’t even work as advertised. The developer is not ashamed either to ask a whopping 40$ for this plain badly coded trash . Does this dev think OS X users are retards?? MU should really do some sort of quality check before allowing apps like this. Nuff said, use a similar free or cheaper app and spend your money on a real OS X app.

Suggestion #1: If all you need is a menubar app that displays your internal and external IP address, as well as the current state of your Internet connectivity, then I suggest John Schilling's free app called "BwanaDik", which is FREELY available in the Mac App Store at the following URL: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bwanadik/id876923947?mt=12 It is currently at version 4.0.3 Suggestion #2: With an outrageous price of $40.73 for "IP Address Menu", AlphaOmega Software should seriously consider changing their name to Sucker Software. After all, who but suckers would purchase their way-overpriced software??? Shame on you for your greed!

If you need to connect to your computer from outside the local network (so you can't use afp://computer-name.local ), I recommend the free dyndns [.] .com service which maps your ip with a domain-name. "No more ip"--just use a domain name provided by them.

Thanks to the guy that said use BwanaDick! It works great and I put it on all my Macs! I once went for one of AlphaOmega's "apps" if you can call them that. It was a translator app and it was TERRIBLE! BwanaDick does the job and does it with CLASS! Why spend good money on junk like this when Freeware that does the job better is available.

Well, it's definiteley way overpriced at $20; I can find nothing about IP Address Menu that justifies the price. I use BwanaDik; it's free and has essentially the same features. On checking out the developer's website, I found numerous apps offered, but they're virtually all overpriced(at least $20), considering their lack of sophistication.

"IP Address Menu" does nore than several other applications of this kind. Not only it allows you to know your IP address (in the menu bar, and even with more information in the menu), but sends you notifications of changes by email or by FTP. It allows you to know the IP address of your Mac remotely (even after reboot for example).

Garbage. MenuMeters has this built in (even though you have to click on the 'transmit-receive' menu to display it, but how often do you need to know your exact IP address with second-to-second precision?) and doesn't cost a cent.

I use IPMenu for this that does most of all of this and it is free. I agree with some of the other reviews of this regarding too much for too little.

If you really need to check your IP address 10 times a day, there are 3 freeware apps that fullfill this function right there at MU. Just type "IP address menu" in the search field to find them.
