SquidMan is a graphical installer and GUI for the squid proxy cache for Mac OS X. Squid can:

cache downloaded content, reducing network traffic and improving browsing performance on slow links
act as a proxy server for other computers on your subnet
restore the operation of many MacOS X system services that normally fail through authenticated proxy servers, such as Software Update.

This I use on an off but I prefer polipo because it has some ad blocking.

If squidman could incorporate some form of ad blocking that would make it number 1

I installed this to run a proxy through a VPN tunnel.
It installs Squid for you and has a GUI.

Free. Excellent.

Great tool! This coupled with Privoxy as Parent Proxy offer a fast browsing experience rid off any advertisement or any troublesome internet pollution.
Very efficient.

This is a very useful tool for people interested in learning more about squid. In addition for those who would like a basic proxy server you should quickly be up and running with SquidMan.

An optional demon mode would be quite, but then again, you could install squid.

Great Job.

Note : By default most settings and caches are stored within the users library folder.

this works a treat though I did need to turn off "enable stealth mode' in the firewall for this to work :?
Great software, now I can use my ibook (connected to this mac via firewire - dead screen) on the internet. Excellent!!

I know - this app is great, but current dmg seems to be corrupted? When the app starts i get an error message: Tamper Alert

Several people have mentioned the tamper alert previously, and in at least one case it was traced to the user placing squidman into a folder with a "?" character in folder name. Other similar unix special characters may also result in false tamper alerts. Be sure to place the .app file in a folder (and path) with no special characters, and you should no longer see the tamper alert.
