Spamnix is the leading spam-blocking solution for Qualcomm Eudora email. It is presently the only spam blocking product designed specifically for Eudora and that is integrated directly into the Eudora user interface. Spamnix supports Eudora
5, 6, or newer on Mac OS X.
What's New
Version 3.0.28:
[3.0.30] Fixed: For some users that have trained Spamnix on a very large amount of email, Spamnix would report an internal error every time Eudora started.
[3.0.29] Added "One year ago" option to the Statistics dialog box.
Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.2 or later, Eudora 5.0 or later.
Spamnix, while working well, disabled the dozens of filters that i painstakingly created. Ther emay be a way to overcome this embedded in the Help files - but i am too lazy to wade through it as I will let this demo expire without paying for it. I guess that i will return to using Spamfire.

WhenI first upgraded to version 1.3.8, I was pleasantly surprised by the new "Traning" mode. I decided to train Spamnix using a few thousand emails from my good and junk folders. This took 30-45 minutes for Spamnix to process everything. After it was done, I found that I was getting more junk mail in my good folders than before....Hmmmm???? And the training process that occurs when I press cmd+j, takes a long time, plus it didn't seem to help.
Then five days later, Spamnix was responsible for two complete lockups of my Mac, that forced me to reboot each time. After the 2nd lockup, I booted into Single-User mode (cmd+s upon reboot), and ran disk utility (fsck -y -f). There was a minor problem with the Volume Header that was repaired. Yikes, that was caused by Spamnix!
This is a pretty harsh review of a product that I have been happy with for over a year......until this upgrade.
I am going to reinstall version 1.3.8, and give it another try, this time using fewer emails in the training process. I will return to append this review with an update.

.......turns out that I was using version 1.7, not 1.8.5.
The link on MacUpdate downloads version 1.7 from April 14, 2004.
Until this link is fixed, get version 1.8.5 from http://www.spamnix.com/download.html
Great product, well supported. I use it in conjuction with Eudora's built-in filters, together they catch 150+ pieces of junk mail per day. Before Eudora 6, Spamnix caught 90% of all junk mail, and had less 0.5% false positives.

I've tried them all, including the built-in junk filtering, and have always returned to Spamnix. It's more efficient, more accurate, faster and just all around better.

The original revieiw was written BEFORE the first public beta of Eudora 6. SpamAssassin has a relatively long track record so we have a pretty good idea how well Spamnix filters spam. The original review was written BEFORE the first public beta of Eudora 6 was available. SpamAssassin has a relatively long track record so we have a pretty good idea how well Spamnix filters spam. I am not saying that Eudora 6's filtering is better or worse (...yet). It's still too early too tell. Indeed, I've been using it and turned Spamnix off and I have to admit that, so far, it's done at least as good as Spamnix.

With the new spam filters in Eudora 6 beta already out, who actually needs this anymore, especially considering the hefty price tag (nearly as expensive as the actual host app!)?

Finally, a version of SpamAssassin packaged as a plugin for MacOSX Eudora! While many ISP's have server-side filtering and can keep what they class as spam on their servers, I prefer to always see what's being classed as spam and download it (just in case it isn't spam). Having Spamnix on the client side fully integrated into Eudora is very convenient and generally easier/faster to use than ISP web page configurations. Used in conjunction with Eudora's filtering gives a greater and finer degree of filtering control. If you, like me, get over 50 pieces of spam a day, you will find Spamnix is a great filter extension to Eudora. I highly recommend it.
