To simplify the search for a Lion compatible version:
Below Mschmitt pointed to:

Which has been properly modified to run on Lion.
Thanx Mschmitt

So far this doesn't seem very likely. Lion won't have Rosetta so will not run PowerPC applications. In principle the developers just have to recompile the container app to run on Intel (DVA is actually a JAVA application) but there's been no sign of any Mac support for years. Fortunately the current four-year-old build still runs OK.

This is a terrific application, it will be a great loss.

OK, this should work (with some caveats). Right click on the DVArchive application and select "show package contents". Navigate to Contents/Resources/Java, click on the icon for DVArchiveMac.jar and make an alias. Drag this alias somewhere convenient and you should be able to use it to run the application without its Mac OSX container.

Now about those caveats: ugly Java Menus, no proper icon, no server (you can't watch Mac files on the ReplayTV though you can upload OK). Basically you've unwound most of the enhancements mentioned in the Mac OS X READ ME FIRST file included with DVA. I don't have Lion but I tested this on 10.6.7 with Rosetta disabled.

RW - I've done this a have only the DVArchive Menu across the top of the Mac screen (along with the desired DVArchive window). So for example if one of my RTVs does not show up I can no longer pick the menu item that allowed me to force DVA to look for recent RTVs. Do you get a full menubar at the top of the Mac screen?

I should have noted I am using Lion - not 10.6.x are RW tested.

I started a thread about this on the AVS Forum and found a solution. The thread is at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1349043

Installed 3.2 and changed Java prefs to use 5.0. Works very well so far. Seems to start up faster and streaming shows with Quicktime works great. You GO Gerry!!!!!!!

Has anyone gotten this to run under Tiger? I'm currently on 10.4.5 and this program gives an error when I first try to run it and it won't launch.

That's really cool.. I don't have a replay tv but this software would make it much more beneficial to own one.

DVArchive allows your computer to act like a "Virtual ReplayTV". You can download shows from your ReplayTV to burn to DVD/VCD, play shows from your ReplayTV right on your desktop and play shows that are stored on your computer right from your ReplayTV/TV screen.

Among its more interesting features are:

  • Automatically finds your ReplayTVs
  • Download shows from your ReplayTV to your computer to watch, archive, burn to DVD/VCD, etc
  • Automatic support for Replay 4xxx and 5xxx Series units
  • Turn your computer into a virtually unlimited capacity ReplayTV show archive
  • Schedule automatic downloads of shows from your ReplayTV to your computer
  • Schedule automatic purging/deleting of shows you don't like but which your ReplayTV keeps recording
  • Watch previously downloaded shows OR watch shows directly from your ReplayTV without having to download them first
  • Control your ReplayTV remotely (turn it on, off, delete shows, etc)
  • Manage your ReplayTVs photos (coming in V2.1)
  • Control your ReplayTV from your computer (coming in V2.1)
  • Has a clean interface that allows you to see and use all your ReplayTVs from one place
  • A whole heck of a lot more!

DVArchive supports all ReplayTV 4xxx and 5xxx series units.

DVArchive is free (it's even Open Sourced and GPLd - look at the source if you are interested) and runs on any platform Java V1.4 or later runs on (Windows, Macs, Linux, Solaris, etc). The Open Source development community for it is hosted by SourceForge. Note that for the Mac OSX, you'll have to get a developers release of Java 1.4.1 (it's not official yet, but it's free to get it - details included in the MacOS download).
