War of Infamy 2.1 is a total conversion for Ghost Recon. It allows the player to select from British, Canadian, American, or German troops and do battle in World War II era missions. War of Infamy 2.1 includes dozens of new characters, weapons, sound effects, and vehicles.

Requirements

Well, I had to call back to answer myself. I solved my problems (see previous post) by doing a fresh and clean install. Start with GR "Desert Siege", then the "1.4" patcher (from Aspyr) and then WOI. Now it works. My previous problems must have been caused by me not being careful. OSX 10.1.5, G3 iMac 700 with 512MB.

This mod is only partially working for me and not useable at all. In OSX 10.1.5 and OS 9.2.2 (iMac G3 700) it does the same thing. When I activate the mod, the text in the game becomes unreadable (blue and white blocks) and it is impossible to see weapons information. The mod launcher does not launch, ie. hitting "Begin" does nothing. My version of GR says "v1.2.10.0 10/2/2002 12:50". I have tried to install the GR update to "1.4" (whatever and however you see that) and all installers say that my version of GR is okay. I know others have this same problem, it must be something simple. I have also tried it with the Desert Siege mod installed and not, to the same result. If you have solved this problem, please post your fix here.

There are aspects of this mod which are very interesting, but much of it left me cold. Many of the new weapons and the wide variety of WWII soldier types available impressed me quite a bit, but once I started playing weaknesses showed through. To start with, the gameplay, maps and missions are nearly identical to the normal GR, but with weather altered and missions given a more retro feel and intent. This was easily my greatest disappointment. Seeing spelling errors and general bad grammar in the mission briefs didn't help either. Considering the effort that must have been put into creating the characters it's a shame more work wasn't put into the gameplay itself, and the details.

The models seem quite good, and the weapons, for the most part, are very impressive. One thing that bugs me is the audio for the MG-42 and MG-34 - they sound pretty bad. I don't understand this in the case of the MG-42 as GR already has an MG-42 to work with (albeit of a different calibre than was used in WWII) which would be much preferable. I have yet to use every weapon and every model, but with the two MG exceptions, I give high marks for the characters.

There are weak parts to this mod, but the truth of the matter is that this is a freebie, and with that in mind I can easily recommend installing. I look forward to seeing Russian and Japanese models added in the future.

I had no problem with installation or use whatsoever. Read the readme and follow the instructions. If you play quick missions you can mix the WWII soldiers with modern specialists - a para with a Bren is always nice to have around.

This convert really impressed me and even started me playing the solo version all over again. I think it is really great and I am very impressed with not only the idea of it, but the ability to do it and pull it off. I highly recommend giving it a try.

I run it on a Mac G4 17" laptop, it does great.

Can't make this MOD work in my PowerBook 1GHz, under 10.2. Works well in G3 B&W with same system version. Odd and a pitty.

I cannot get this MOD to work :(

I've installed recon and updated it to 1.4 three times and then run the WoI installer and it simply will not work properly.

1) the in-screen/game option menus will not display...no text..if I mouse around and click on the blank screen I can stumble across the odd word that I can click on activating opr de-activating something. but it refuses to dispay these options properly like the basic game options visuals. :(
