Thanks to very smart algorithms, Watcher'84 focuses on the real page content only, bypassing advertisements, counters, and other unneeded elements which would otherwise trigger unwanted notifications.

I have a large website that uses WebYep (a great compact CMS, by the way), and it is edited by dozens of people all over the local area. I create feeds for these pages, but I never know when the pages have been updated -- until now. I downloaded Watcher84 and a couple of other similar applications today and tried them all. Watcher84 is so simple to use and worked perfectly on my Intel iMac with 10.4.10. I have set my iCal to open it twice a day to check for updates and it has made my life a LOT easier already. I was spending a lot more than $12.49 worth of my time checking pages or asking people to email me when they'd done updates -- which they didn't do. The only thing I'd like to see (so far) in this app is the option to clear the checkboxes in front of the updated pages without having to open the page(s), and that is because when I make a master change on the site and it affects all the pages, I don't want to have to open the entire site to clear the boxes. Well, I guess there is one more thing: it would be nice to have folders so you could group your sites or pages instead of having one loooong list. Since you can just select open updated pages, though, I suppose that's purely for aesthetic purposes.

Hasn't worked as well for me lately; certain sites (that used to work just fine with Watcher84) now show up as updated every time I check even though the site really hasn't changed.

Very pleased with this program. Set as many sites as you like in its database (just use the "Add URL to Watcher '84" option in the application's Services menu) and set it to check the entire list of sites for updates at specific intervals of up to 24 hours. Changed sites will be marked in red, and you can even click "Open Updated Pages" to open all the updated sites in individual browser windows. There are three levels of algorithms used to determine if a site has changed. Note that if you change the algorithm, my experience was that all sites would then be marked as changed.

Hint: To check for sites manually, set it to check every 24 hours and then manually start the checking process when you want it to run.
