Xkeys allows you to launch applications and open files and folders just by pressing a function key. Function keys can have submenus, duplicating the functionality of Fkey Expander. It can also be put on standby with a keystroke.
The ability of function keys to launch things is a feature of OS 9 that has been dropped in Mac OS X for some reason. Xkeys brings it back and combines it with the functionality of the Fkey Expander.
What's New
Version 1.1.1 adds the following:
Fixed a possible crash during startup.
Fixed a problem where some Apple Scripts could not be executed by Xkeys.
I read the review saying the installer didn't work with Tiger. There is a manual install option available on the web site if the installer isn't working - I installed prior to Tiger, I believe, so I'm not sure if the Installer works. Anyway, It seems to work fine in Tiger (I'm using 10.4.4). I hope we'll see an update making it a universal binary, and I'd really like to see this freeware open sourced.

So, whenever I hit apple+f13 to pause iTunes via Synergy I get the following error. (I will send via email as well)
"An exception of class OutOfBoundsException was not handled. The application must shut down."
It look like xKeys will not install on Tiger. Everytime i have tried to install I recieve an error message. " Open Failed Couldn;t open install Xkeys. pkg. Anyone have a fix

Today I saw a posting of v. 1.1.1 on MacUpdate (suggesting this is an update), stating 10.3 as a requirement.
I checked my system, and according to the splash screen I've apparently been running 1.1.1 for almost half a year already, and what's more, on 10.2.8!
What gives?
Just a little exposure?
Fine with me, but I don't see the incentive...
BTW: fine little piece of work!

Absolutely awesome. I could not live without it. It would also be fantastic if it had built in support for typing a few lines of text by pressing a function key too.

I had to search for it to find out where the silly thing was installed. Turns out it installs in the Utilities folder. Would of done much better to make it a System Preference.
In any case, it couldn't properly launch my AppleScripts for some reason. So I trashed it.
Running OS X 10.2.8, all that happened when I opened it was Toast opened. Like the bathroom shower coming on when you switch the light on. Unstuffed another copy, tried again, same result. Advise?

"An exception of class OutOfBoundsException was not handled. The application must shut down."
Then all my hot keys become unavailable. :s
Love the app though. Very handy.
