I have the Unix Executable File of LAME version 3.9.7b2 and I dropped it in "/Applications/LameBrain 0.6.2b3 20040306/bin" but when I try to encode I get a error from LAMEBrain.
Thanks.

Um..."convert" is really not the right word...that seems to imply the new file is equivalent to the source in terms of quality. When you take one lossily compressed music file and submit it to a another method of lossy compression, expect degraded audio. This is called transcoding.
Encode from the most robust source you have available, typically the redbook cd audio ripped to uncompressed wav/aiff or Apple Lossless, and not mp3/wma/ogg/mp2/AAC/etc.
