A bit late but I just saw your post. FreeHand now only works on 10.9 with an install of 10.6.8 in either Parallels, Fusion, or Virtual Box. You can also use FreeHand MX (WIN) with Crossover. Also FHMX will work with Sheepshaver in Classic mode, but that's pretty retro. FreeHandForum.org has more.

Finally dead. Fails to launch on the latest Core i7 MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.6.4 (32-Bit.) Not even a crash dialog appears; just a couple bounces in the dock and then it stops bouncing. Rosetta is installed. Activity Monitor shows FreeHand as a new processID during the attempted launch.

Crash report indicates the CodeFragmentManager is the likely culprit:

Try downgrade to version 10.0 - it is stable on 10.6 - just with the exception that you have to print via PDF export. I am using 10.6.6 and 10.0 with pleasure !

Get the Adobe "hot fix" for this:

We are all using FreeHand MX on Snow Leopard these days!

With the fate of FreeHand MX still in the hands of Adobe, I recommend that all users here join the thousands at www.FreeFreeHand.org . FreeHand does not have to fall prey to Adobe's practice of non-competition or it's forced migration to Illustrator. Having both vector applications is the best of both worlds.

Long time user of Macromedia Freehand I am very disappointed with result of latest version MX! This Windows like interface and over all confusing style of desktop not mentioning this new policies of licensing leading me to stay with ADOBE. Flash MX I have is virtually same but because there is nothing better at mean time I have to stuck with that. Anyway good news is, that Illustrator CS is great software not only in partnership with Photoshop but on it's own as well as great companion for GoLive!m Anyway to make it short not spending my money for Macromedia product comes down to ADOBE CS package which is efficient and absolutely great!

Macromedia for Mac seems to be nothing more than a bitter sweet old memory. Nothing can be worse than Flash on X so in that regard I guess FH is not that bad, but as unbelievable as it may seem, Illustrator is just way better now...

I really want to like Macromedia but they just SUCK on Mac at this point.

Use FH since ages (at work) Now I´m freelancing, and I will not "buy" the product for myself, until it get´s better. Some stuff is so annoying, that I thought about switching to illustrator wich might be a good decision. Macromedia "make your homework" is all what I say. I will give the updater a try. Let´s see.

Wow people find this one OK??? It's more bloated than Illustrator X and less efficient. Macromedia was a great company with top products, now they're one of the worst. Are they taking lessons from Quark? Dreamweaver and Freehand MX are bad in Windows and buggy betas in OS X. Keep your old version!!! Still working with Dreamweaver 4 and Freehand 8 because they works. Adobe does a better job with CS.
