Many thanks to Daniel for maintaining this freeware for us for so long! He can finally let it rest, because the plugin is no longer necessary.
Microsoft has finally, at long last, made POP3 access available for all hotmail accounts (even free ones). Instructions can be found at http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090407112314693
Plug is working without any problem on 10.5.6 and installation is as simple as double clicking the icon.
Only thing that bothers me is not being able to delete messages on the server, tried to 'erase deleted messages' like it is told in the FAQ but they keep coming back when syncing with hotmail account.
Nice to get the mails and everything but too bad can't delete them.
Useless to me for that matter...

As of June 30th 2008, my plugin will cease to function as Microsoft has decided to terminate HTTPMail (also known as WebDav) protocol access. They have replaced this protocol has been replaced by a new one called DeltaSync. Unfortunately DeltaSync is undocumented and uses non-standard compression and encryption of message data. Until these issues can be resolved there is nothing I can do to fix my plugin.
If you have a Hotmail Plus account you should still be able to access your mail using the POP3 protocol. The details for setting up POP3 access is as follows.
Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com (port 995)
Outgoing mail server: smtp.live.com (port 25)
Username: your full hotmail email address
NOTE: the outgoing mail server requires authentication
I found sometimes deleted items are not properly synchronized. After deleting an item it occasionally reappears in my Inbox. It gets the job done but this little quirk is quite annoying. I'm using Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2, with no other Mail.app add-ons.
I did not got to Snow leopard. I did a regular update to OS X 10.5.8 (if this is the same I will feel sheepish for saying something but I don't thing they are the same)
This plugin worked for as long as I have had it installed. As far as I can tell the information is correct in the mail app, but after doing a routine update it stopped. It gives me a message saying it is forbidden to connect to my hotmail account. This happened about 3 or 4 days ago.
I anyone else experiencing this problem? How do I fix it? I can't say much other than It was updated, restarted and turned off for the night. The next morning it wouldn't connect. My other mail accounts are working just fine.
Hey Daniel thank you for the plug inn i don't you if you noticed that with snow leopard the plug inn is not working i hope you can get this fixed as u always do
I love this plug in so i hope you can fix it for us
Hi, Im having trouble installing this application. I cant seem to find
HTTPMail in picking acccount type. I only have POP, IMAP, and Exchange listed.
I tried to close my mac mail and relaunch after installing (the application said i installed successfully).
What am i doing wrong? I know you must get tonnes of emails, but im a little slow. Do I also have to upgrade to hotmail plus?
I have had HTTPMail for a few months now on the Leopard system and everything seemed to be working just fine and now I can't receive any emails. I can send outgoing messages but I'm not getting anything. Does anyone have any ideas????

Hi Timothy,There are at least a dozen of setting Hotmail with Mac etc and they proven all wasted time. I have tried them all but fail. Your suggestion works only. Thank you so much.
Henry
Just installed it to get my hotmail account on my mac mail, but im through to the main window and it wont connect. When I try and connect it says
"Could not connect to 'Hotmail Account'
Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email"
But the address gets redirected to a general hotmail page and I can't get to any subscription.
Any ideas what I can do?
I am still unsure of how to set up my mail account with this software. I downloaded it and still cannot access my hotmail account with it. any tips on what to fill in on the preferences on the mail account. I'm a brand new mac user. Still getting used to all the changes!
Tried this for the first time and it gives me an error telling me I need a subscription!
I've had my hotmail account for over 10 years now and when I got to upgrade to Hotmail Plus (Windows Liveā¢
?), it brings me to my inbox which means I must already have it.
I know Hotmail did this thing awhile back where you had to start paying to access your mail through an email client... Is that still the case?
Does everyone whom this works for, do you all have a paid subscription through Hotmail?
There no mention about having to have a paid subscription in the documentation if this is the case.
If anyone has any insight on this could you please let me know?
