I have not seen any response from the developer to these comments. I reviewed the developer's web site, and honestly, don't see an advantage to this program over Disk Utility in 10.4.x. Can anyone offer some advantage?
In responce to the responce...you can do this exact thing booting off the OS X disc, just switch from the installer to disk utility. OS 10.4 can do 1, 7, and even 35 random writes over the ENTIRE disc. Hidden files make no difference because they're on the hard drive, they'll be erased. Don't throw your money at this, it's just capitalizing on something that came free with your mac (or OS if you've upgraded to OS X).

This is correct as I just did this very thing to several hard drives I was getting rid of. Unless SuperScrubber can do it in a much shorter time period I see no use for it.

Also, I don't understand why the Developer saw fit to rip-off Dowel Chemical's Scrubbing Bubbles icon, albeit with slight alternation.

In response to the previous post. No this app is not like Apple's secure empty trash feature in panther. This app deletes all the information on a hard drive for when you're getting rid of your Mac. It's nice because you can configure your security and it comes on a bootable CD for those who don't have a CD burner or don't want ot waste time making a bootable disc. I say all this cause I purchased the product and liked it. I wish it was faster and could just wipe the empty space though.
I was thinking the same thing. From the ads under "more info" I gather it gets the "hidden copies" if any exist as well. Of course if you are reformatting your drive, that is irrelevant. However if you have one of the many tools that show invisible files, that would get them as well as being useful for many other things. Judging from the description, it may use stronger algorithms than Apple or more passes, which could be useful if you are doing something illegal, immoral, or are paranoid. What the ads don't mention is that it takes fairly sophisticated tools and knowledge to break Apple's erasing technology along with lots of time and expense, so the average person you sell you machine to is not going to be able to do this or want to. So what this package protects against is sophisticated corporate espionage (illegal), illegal use of sensitive information by sophisticated hackers, and criminal investigations, So if you are one of the select few that fit that profile I guess this package is for you. Otherwise I feel like you do, that it duplicates Apple's efforts and that your money might be better spent somewhere else.

When you delete a file, drag it to the trash, or reformat your hard drive, the area it was saved on is not erased, but simply freed up for another layer of data to be written over it. The old files are not completely erased and leave magnetic footprints called "shadow data." Sophisticated data recovery tools are available for retrieving deleted files and information from damaged disks.
