Brightness Control is a tool for dimming all your Mac's displays with one slider. Now, you can go to bed and still keep an eye out for that oh-so-important instant message or email you've been waiting on - without throwing a pillow over your partner's head.
Works perfectly on Lion. I have a headache right now and I didn't want to fiddle with the menus on my three non-Apple displays to dim them. This did the trick wonderfully.
Surprisingly the displays look very good with the software dimming. I expected the black level to be wonky but it's not too much worse than dimming it through hardware.
Such an application is most useful mainly (and, in fact, only) for the external monitor as the internal monitor has its Apple-blessed settings. Unfortunately, this app does not have exactly this most needed feature. For my MB internal monitor it is entirely useless. This is an incentive for its creator.
No star for the time being, will keep an eye on future releases.
Good app, just one problem: It doesn't dim your (iMac) display by dimming the backlighting (at least not on a G5 iMac as far as I'm concerned). It merely darkens the pixels on the LCD.
Couple problems with this: One, it throws colours off. Two, the backlight is still there -- running the same amount of energy, albeit WASTING the same amount of energy.
I'd love to see the day when the developers can make this thing control the backlighting itself. I mean look at the macbooks (and my old powerbook) -- they go completely off -- the backlighting, that is. The iMac can do the same (under System Prefs/Energy Saver/turn off display).
Nice app. Works great to dim my SUPER-BRIGHT iMac G5 2.1GHz. Now I can work late at night and not be blinded. But the Sun icon is ugly. I replaced it with an icon of an Apple display.

This is a must have. Was using DarkAdapted (very good too), Brightness Control uses less CPU (0% when inactive vs 4%). Great freeware.

Works, just wish it was a menubar item and did not reset back to normal brightness when certain things happen like the screensaver lauches. Also, just a tip - the app Dockless works to hide the icon from the dock.
works great on ti g4 powerbook.
really neat with plesant appearance and smooth operation. works independant of main brightness control for fine tuning.

Works great, but could there be an option to conrol displays separately for a dual display setup?
Excellent product. After TWO (2) years of use I ought to know.
I have 5 Macs in this home, from G-3 to G-5, some are networked wirelessly, etc.
Why use a screen-saver when you can use this

I have this utility for a while now. The old saying is true. Some of the best things in life are free. It is certainly true for BC 1.0.3.
Definite recommended for all users staying up pass midnight to produce work. Thanks.
Well, using the slider resets the current display profile to the default display profile. Hence, this app is not yet useful for those who have set a custom display profile.
Looks like a cool app, and I would definitely use it if not for one thing.
Upon adjusting the brightness using this app, the colors on my display are thrown off. Everything is given a slight blue tinge. Once I quit the program, it goes back to normal
