It works, but every time I open it, it's pink and is not showing the full image. It's not showing half the game. Is there a way to fix this? I've tried to re-size it, but even at fullscreen it only shows the little square in the middle and the pink/half size problem is still a factor. Anyone else having this problem?

A couple of years ago, after I first got my mac, I downloaded VisualBoyAdvance, and it worked perfectly. Annoyingly enough, ever since I updated my mac to leopard, even version 1.7.4 crashes whenever I open a ROM file and a message saying that it quit unexpectedly. This is extremely annoying. Does anyone have any idea what could be the source of this problem?

First beta of the universal binary for those who really need it (Great for Mother 3):
http://vba-m.ngemu.com/vbam/vbaotherbuilds/VBA-M-MacOS-X-0.1.dmg

I'd recommend trying Boycott Advance first before using this. It's very glitchy seeing as how it's a beta. It's the only thing that'll run Mother 3 for me, though.

VISUALBOY ADVANCE IS AWESOME!!! All the other reviews I posted that said VBA was crappy, those are FAKE! I finally realized it that using both Visualboy Advance and Boycott Advance, you can emulate all GBA games. Also, one other user convinced me that VBA 1.7.3 is the best version to have on Mac OS X because all of the ROM crashing problems have all been wiped out. Thank you to whoever posted that review about VBA 1.7.3. My default GBA emulator will always be VBA, but I will always use Boycott Advance whenever necessary.

I just found out why Boycott Advance wasn't working for me. There was a major bug problem in The Shell. The bug problem was... with Emulator Enhancer installed, the battery RAM and the freeze states wouldn't work properly, thus you couldn't properly save AT ALL! in KiGB or Boycott Advance, that's why I turned to Visualboy Advance because there are NO! saving problems at all. Now that I figured it out, the next review I post is going to be a review about Boycott Advance & Visualboy Advance, the differences between the two, and why Boycott Advance is SO much better than Visualboy Advance

I love Visualboy Advance. At first, I thought Boycott Advance was better, but then I realized that VBA is much, much better. On my old G3 iMac (I now have a G4 eMac), one day, my pokemon silver battery file vanished. That was when I thought VBA was crappy. I then realized that VBA is much better, because if you open and close a game a lot, the battery file will vansih, thus that's how I came across Boycott Advance & KiGB.

Anyway, VBA rocks. I'll give it 5 stars any day.

Any chance on getting a universal binary version? VBA runs on my MBP, but it gets kinda choppy at times.

Seems development has stopped, project appears abandoned. Last update was 3.5 years ago, homesite for this app is currently non-existent.

I think VBA will be updated, it's just that Adam Green currently doesn't have enough developers to continue updating VBA. When that happens, VBA will be updated to Universal Binary. Why are you using VBA on your MBP? Use Boycott Advance. It's Universal Binary, but there's a Battery RAM problem, thus use the Freeze/Defrost function until the Gameboy Advance is no longer on commercial sale, which probably won't be for a VERY! LONG! time.

Boycott won't run, at all. It's pops into the dock then dies. So, VBA is the only real choice.

On my G4 eMac, Boycott Advance pops into the dock, and runs like a charm, regardless of whatever version it is. I am running Mac OS X v10.4.11. When I was running Mac OS X v10.3.9 on my old G3 iMac, this same thing happened, but it only did it to the Tiger releases. I know you're running either Mac OS X Tiger or Leopard, because the word "Intel" didn't even exist with Mac OS X Panther. Before, Boycott Advance was only PPC-based, but then Richard Bannister updated it to Universal Binary, thus I think your problem is, you're probably running a "PPC only" version of Boycott Advance. Try downloading Boycott Advance v0.3.9 and see if that works. If not, then I'd advised you to stay away from GBA emulation FOR GOOD!

Why? Why is it that, on even a rudimentary, slow, old PC running the worst OS ever (any version of Windows), Visual Boy works fine, everything is great, and you can play the games you want? But, under OS X-- which is superior in every way-- using a dual G4 machine which should be ample to emulate the GBA, everything works like bloody stool, you can't save your game, there aren't many options for customizing the performance, and there are repeated glitches, crashes, etc, and clearly no multiprocessor support? It makes me very angry. No updates for years, what's up with this? I thought OS X was a great development platform? And the only other GBA emulator that I've found is, at least, just as bad, but with different problems (and that guy expects you to cough up $30 if you want to use a gamepad and have dodgy fullscreen support, even though his app barely struggles to kind of work, and he is very defensive, telling you that if there are problems, he doesn't care. It is enough to make you want to freak out. It is verging on a form of abuse, in my mind. I'd gladly pay to have GBA games running on my computer in a form that is useable. I want them on a large screen, and not on a little one. What is the problem? Why doesn't anyone care? How come, though I must use OS X because I can't possibly stand Windows even for a second, OS X gamers are treated like a used bit of toilet tissue?

I had the same problem with not being able to save. The solution was to use a save state _other_ than the first (F1). So far F2-F4 have worked fine for me. My system is an iMac G4 running 10.3.9.

I have a problem... The problem is when I go to start Final Fantasy IV or FF I & II, the game does not play when I press return or enter at the "new game" screen. It works before that screen but not sure why it doesn't work at that screen. Is there something I need to do or do I need to add something or configure something? They aren't the only games where I've had that same similar problem either. Please help me get this working. (BTW, i have the same problem with Boycott so it can't be the emulator itself nor the rom) Weird...

I use both a Power Mac G4 running at 533mhz and an iMac G3 that's much slower if that helps any.
