we are using Outlook Express 5.0.6 on 4 machines and on one, it keeps saying disk is full when we go to get new mail. There is nothing in mailboxes, and we have pumped up memory to 1000000

any suggestions?

Have you tried deleting its preferences file?
Not that it is a panacea, but it often works wonders to just delete the preferences file of whatever app is misbehaving. Quit the app first, of course, then delete the pref's file.

Try deleting some of the old emails. I had the same problem and once I deleted some of my old emails from my sent box and in box it solved the problem.

I also have had the same problem more than once. Last time I deleted Outlook Express and reinstalled it. It then worked but this is a big pain in the... Is there another way? Anyone please? Deleting old mail and deleting preferences does not work.

OE has a file size limit of (i think) 2GB. You need to delete files. Sometimes this isn't enough though and you also need to compact your mailbox. You do this by quitting OE and reopening it whilst holding down the alt key. It takes a while!

Based on an earlier comment, I had the "disk full" message for Outlook and did dump all of my sent messages tonight. It worked!

Thanks. Had this problem for a week.

Re: Disc Full message.
I had same problem, just deleted a chunk of my sent messages after reading this and can now send emails again! Thanks

I was having the same problem with Outlook Express (version 5.0.4) on an old G3, receiving the following message:

The disk is full
Error: -34

I emptied out about half of my Sent Items folder and that fixed it.

Thanks!

Recently I have instlled Outlook express 6 version. I am using windows 98 for internet browsing.Whenever OE is opened and send/receive button is clicked to receive messages, all incoming messages are duplicated. That is the same message is repeated below the previous one. This unnecessarily consumes downloading time and since it is exactly the duplicate no use at all.
After a few minutes the duplicates are getting vanished. How can I solve this problem?
Pl give me a reply/solution. the same phenomenon is observed in another PC which I am using in my office.

I had the same problem with the spell check being greyed out even though I had Office 98
installed. I copied the "Proofing Tools" folder from the Office 98 shared applications folder
into the "outlook Express 5.0.6" folder and
spell checking became active again.

I prefer OE over Netscape, it used to be quite stable, but when it does something wrong, it does it thoroughly!
Microsoft Internet Self-Repair intruded in my computer twice already, destroying address books, saved messages, etc., without my asking it to do it.
Now, OE refused to start; I got an alert box telling me that "An error occurred while launching. The endo of file was reached."
It took me 2 full hours to get a "help" note (Outlook Express Q296844) which I followed with the result that OE is back to work, ONLY it cannot do any work sending messages because my address book was totally and irremediably DELETED, GONE.
And, to make things worse, nos KB or Community Newsgroup, or Microsoft itself for that matter, can tell me how to simply SAVE an address book for further use when things go wrong.
Trying to save it as a CSV, or a TXT, or any other kind of file is useless, as anybody who's tried would know.
IF (and this is a BIG IF) can tell me how to save an address book that can be used as its name implies, I'll be very grateful for the tip.

Have you tried saving your Outlook Express preferences file on a back up disk? That's always worked well for me.

Ok, mostly i just hate Microsoft products, but unlike Internet Explorer or MSN messenger this thing is pretty stable, never had crashes with it. It's also the best free email client for the classic Mac OS.

I've always adored the three-pane interface of OE, but could never find a non-Microsoft email program that suited my needs and customization wants. Eudora did what I wanted it to, but the "separate window for each screen element" drove me batty.

MS OE never worked on my Mac until I bought a copy of OS 9.1. Syatem 8.1 and 5.0.3 crashed too much on my 7300/200. Only when I d/l'ed the 5.0.6 version of OE did everything work the way I expected it to. I can now also archive my mail by swlwcting all mail in the message summary window and draging it to a folder on my desktop. The resulting mail is text editor-readable and searchable with Sherlock.

Outlook Express is supported by AT&T Broadband. But it loaded into Classic. Is there a version for OSX 10.1.5? I don't want to load my printer drivers into OS9 too. Or should I use Entourage instead? e-mail me with solution: r.schlemmer@attbi.com
